Bhatkal, August 11: “Education changes a man. It has the capacity to change inner self of man,” said deputy chief minister of Karnataka, Dr G Parameshwara.

He was speaking as chief guest at a talent awards programme of non resident entrepreneurs of Bhatkal held under the aegis of Rabita association. “There is more value for education than cash and jewelry. Parents of students should understand it.”

“India has high class human resources. Every year seventy thousand doctors, thousands of engineers and graduates come out of it. Indian doctors and engineers can be seen all over the world. India in the world and Karnataka in India grow fast. Education should be upgraded here to compete with international standards.”

“India has seen tremendous growth during seventy years after independence. It is not fair to compare it to European countries which have the history of 250 years of independence. India was facing scarcity of food in 1970 but now we have reached a stage of exporting pulses to other countries. Citizens should realize what we have achieved during the last seventy years. They should answer those who ask such questions. Though there are differences among us, we are united. The constitution of India has given us the freedom to live as equals. But the opposition criticized us that the attitude that only we should live, talk and have the power discarding the constitution is growing. Nobody in Bhatkal should feel that they are illiterate. Karnataka government will provide protection to all. Let us live like brothers,” he said.

Member of Muslim personal law board, senior advocate Zabaryab Jalani gave a lecture. KPCC member G A Bava, Congress leader Nivedit Alva, western zone IGP Arun Chakravarthy, Moulana Khaza Madani, Moulana Azeem and others were present.

Rabita organization president Zahid Ruknuddin presided the programme. Entrepreneurs Yunus Khazia gave a key note address. Tanwir Jushiddi and Yousuf Barmavar compered the programme. Students who have secured highest marks in SSLC, PUC and degree were felicitated.

Dr G Parameshwara visited the house of late S M Yahya who brought him to politics. The deputy chief minister said that he was repeatedly persuaded by S M Yahya to join politics after returning from Australia after his education. “I was made a primary member of Congress after one and a half year's persuasion. I was taken to Delhi. I later became an MLA and congress party president. I have become deputy chief minister now. The credit for my political achievements are due to S M Yahya. I have become emotional after visiting his residence after many years. My arrival when S M Yahya was alive and taking blessings from his mother are in front of my eyes. I cannot forget them till I am alive," he said.
