Kundapur: Life term imprisonment slapped on killers of Pramod Kharvi

Kundapur, Aug 7: All accused in the murder of Pramod Kharvi, Kharvikeri resident fisherman on October 13, 2014, were sentenced to life imprisonment by the court here on Tuesday, August 7. 

It may be recalled, Kundapur resident Jeevan Rao (32), Herbert Baretto Kharvikeri (32), Joseph Gangolli (46) and Roshan Baretto (24) had killed Pramod Kharvi due to business related dispute and disposed his body in a river. The body was found on October 14, 2014 at the shore of the river. Injury marks found at six places during the post mortem of the body gave rise to suspicion that it was a murder. Protests were held by keeping his corpse at Shastri circle. The accused were arrested after two months of the incident.

The court which conducted the hearing of the case sentenced all the accused to life term imprisonment under section 302, Rs 40,000 fine to each accused, three years rigorous imprisonment for destroying evidence, along with another fine of Rs 10,000 to each of the accused. The verdict was pronounced by district session court justice Prakash Khanderi. Government prosecutor Prakaschandra Shetty argued against the accused.
