Doha, Oct 11: the fourth semi-final event of the Gulf Voice of Mangalore that was held at Al Ghazal Club on Friday October 10 proved to be a spectacular show. Twelve melodious singers from Qatar mesmerized the audience, who had occupied every available seat at the venue.
The event started at 6 pm sharp, with the MCA anthem, followed by a standing ovation, after which the welcome speech was delivered by the dynamic president Harry Lobo.
The chief guests of the evening Guruji Joe Mary Lobo, director of the Chirsta Sharan Ashram Birur and the advisory committee members of Mangalore Cultural Association lit the lamp and inaugurated the much awaited singing competition.
The curtains opened for the grand semi-finals by the master Compere of Gulf Voice of Mangalore Leslie Rego, who then introduced and handed over the judges file to Wilfy Rebimbus, Melwyn Peris and Joel Pereira.
The first session comprised of the performances of all the 12 contestants. After the completion of the first session of the competition, MCA had its stage programme, wherein they honored the felicitated the jury members, guest artistes, musicians follwed by 12 particpants from Qatar.
The sponsors and donors too were felicitated. The stage programme concluded with a touching message from Guruji.
The stage proramme was compered by well-known CGS Taccodde. This was followed by the entertainment by Konkani legend - Konkan Kogul Wilfy Rebimbus, Konkan Myna Meena Rebimbus, Yodling King Melwyn Peris and Sangeeth Guru Joel Pereira. In between, Leslie Rego entertained the crowd with jokes.
Arthur Pais, who was the event coordinator and cultural secretary, proposed vote of thanks and finally the entire crowd witnessed the glittering moment of announcements and felicitating of those two Konkani voices from Qatar, who qualified with high scores of 110 and 101 points respectively, scored by Edward Roshan D'souza and Sunitha Tellis and finally felicitating them by the qualifying badges and presenting the mementos by MCA.
The event concluded at about 10 pm.
