Bengaluru: KPCC chief and Siddaramaiah stress upon forging anti-BJP front ahead of polls

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (DC)

Bengaluru, Jul 23: During Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, the state leaders have stressed on playing a lead role in forging an anti-BJP front ahead of upcoming elections.

Karnataka Congress president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday during the meeting said that that the party needs to strengthen the organisation in the state by bringing in ‘good people’ and involving party workers in the decision- making process.

Former chief minister Siddaramaiah was made a member of the Congress Working Committee by Congress president Rahul Gandhi when he reconstituted the party’s top decision-making body last week. Siddaramaiah also favoured state-specific alliances for the Lok Sabha elections to defeat the ‘fascist forces,’

According to reports, Gundu Rao opined that Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised emotional issues in the recent Karnataka elections to derail the Congress campaign that focused on development issues. "Congress also needed to win the perception battle and highlight on development goals to deliver a better performance in the upcoming elections. The Congress has to ensure that views of party workers get due weightage and value in the decision-making process which should not be ‘leadership centric’,”he reportedly said favouring induction of good people in important party positions to strengthen the organization.

In the meeting both the leaders stressed that the party has to gear up to crush communal forces across the country. They also stressed that the Congress should play a lead role in forging an anti-BJP front.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi too has reportedly asked state Congress presidents to make suggestions on possible alliance partners in every state.

It may be recalled that in the recently concluded assembly polls in Karnataka, the Congress entered into a post-poll alliance with JD(S) to keep the BJP away from power by offering the chief minister’s post to H D Kumaraswamy.

The party is also contemplating on forging alliances for Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan Assembly elections. It is learnt that the BSP has already extended its support for an alliance with the Congress in all the three states.

After electoral rout in May 2018, Congress by handing over the CM ship to JD(S) has given fresh lease of life to DG & Sons. Now, DG & Sons will bargain hard and get at least 10 seats in LS for his party. That leaves 18 to Congress. Probably they will give one seat to SDPI / PFI as also to BSP if these parties forge alliance with Congress-JD(S) combine to fight common enemy - BJP.

The looser here in K'Nataka is clearly the Congress and what their leaders are not thinking is that party is getting diluted here. Soon a situation like Tamil Nadu, UP, Bihar or the two Telugu States may well emerge in K'Nataka too - That of Congress being reduced to a petty 3rd or 4th party in popularity & support.

It's good if INC becomes weak.
For survival, all secular parties will come together, form alliance and gradually merge again ! Otherwise they will be extinct which no party want!

JD(S) is the ultimate gainer in Karnataka. If Congress align with JD(S) or not, they will win same number of seats.

A front just with "Anti BJP" slogan/vision may not work.
Come out with specific manifesto, how you plan to take all section of people together without hurting anyone's sentiment and equally without appeasing any particular caste creed/section. A big no to divisive politics may add matured quality votes to your vote bank even though unfortunately our adult franchise just counts the numbers in terms of age but not the grey matter inside.
