Sullia, Jul 22: It is gathered that Mohan Nayak (53) from here, who has been arrested on the allegation of providing rented accommdoation and gun to the accused in Gauri Lankesh murder case, mostly avoided public appearance, sources said. A team of special investigating team (SIT) officials which visited the residence of Mohan Nayak at Mundadka in Sampaje in the taluk on Saturday, got to know some new things.

Mohan Nayak, who is an arms merchant at Madikeri, is basically a farmer and his father, Vasu Nayak, sells tobacco at Puttur. He lives at Puttur since the last many years. But Mohan Nayak lives with wife and children in Sampaje. His son studies PUC at Madikeri while daughter is a fifth standard student at Sampaje. Nayak is a farmer having about 25 acres of land.

It is said that Nayak's house, which is located away from the main road, has several gates and hence since many years usually no one got to enter his house. The agricultural work on his land was given on contract and hence the workers did not have direct contact with him, it is said. Some locals said that people speaking different languages used to visit him. They thought that they came here to get medicines. Nayak, an activist of Sananatan Sanstha since the last 15 years, used to visit various places to deliver speeches or take part in religious gorammes. He is a practitioner of native medicines having a clinic at Kushalnagar.

Local police said that the SIT may again come to the village along with Mohan Nayak for undertaking further investigation on Sunday. The locals do not have much information about his activities.
