Mangaluru: Central Market to be upgraded under Smart City project, says Khader

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 21: "The Detailed Project Report (DPR) process with respect to the modernization of the city central market under the 'Smart City Scheme’ is going to be completed soon. Temporary arrangement will be done under the leadership of the deputy commissioner (DC) for the existing people who are carrying out their business in the present building and further action will be taken to build a new one," said minister U T Khader.

Khader gave this information in the meeting that was held in connection with the renovation of the Central Market under the Smart City project on Friday, July 20 at the office of the DC.

Giving insight into the project, Khader said, "Instead of developing the Central Market in line with Singapore or Hong Kong, emphasis will be laid to build a modernized market taking into consideration the weather conditions of Mangaluru so that the traders, carrying out their business in the building, do not face any major issues. Only after making alternative arrangements for the traders of the existing market, either within the city or on the outskirts, a further step will be taken."

Sasikanth Senthil, DC, Bhaskar K, mayor of MCC, Shashidhar Hegde, chief whip, MCC and leaders of the existing market were present.

Central market should be decentralised. The MCC should give permission for the Private enterprises to open market places in different localities. There are many private land, where one can start market place, is a smaller level, which will generate income and jobs too. Why concentrate on one place, so called Central Market.

The ideal location for the market is near Bejai bus depot. Why? because, most of the trading is done the vendors who bring the vegetables either from nearby villages or from the neighboring districts of Chickamagaluru or Hassan. This will be less burden or them with one less expense for transport from there to Hampangatta and they in turn will pass on the benefit to the consumer by way of lessor price.

The city of Mangalore voted for BJP since 1991 for 25 long years and the city should be already reached the zenith by now. This is the same city elected former MP Dhanaya Kumar who served as the Union Minister and MLA served as the State Minister in the outgoing CM Yeddyurappa government.

By looking at this pathetic Market it looks to me like an old movie theater. I am glad that this building is still standing and not caved in on some market-goers head.

Minister U T Khader who is traveled across the Middle East and the Far East must have seen the neatly decorated market. It should be modern standards considering the business people and customers alike. Every comfort and convenient should be considered while developing the new project.

I request the minister to consider the foreign experts while designing the market one like Bangalore or Hyderabad Airport.

Hope sitting MP Nalin grant some money from the MP funds.

location of central market itself is at wrong place !!
To make Mangaluru as a smart city, central market has to shift to outer edge of the city first.

    Forget Upgrading.
The entire HAMPANKATTA should be Bulldozed to Ground Level first.
1/It should be like one Foot ball field first.
2/Simulate on computer the 3 D perspective of modern Mangalore like Singapore or Dubai..
3/First build the sub division with total Infrastructure ..
    all underground....sewage/drainage/storm water drains..water..electricity.cable....telepohone tec.
    all under ground.
    4/Build car parking areas.
    5/Build Metro.
6/Now start constructing MARKET like in Sharjah/dubai....first go and see to believe.
7/let the Sky scrapers ..high rise towers be built In Bunder facing the Araiban seas...
but raised levels since in future the water level may rise..
    8/Build all Govt buildings...Hospitals..convention centers....market.
    shopping malls. neatly like Dubai/japan/Germany.
    clean.
9/All walk ways..bike path.... jogging/walking tracks to be laid first.
    10/Multi complex:
residential cum commercial should be planned and built by only the best builders.with best Architects/designers../engineers/over seers.
Bring in Engineers from Britain/Germany/japan/Singapore to help us in the real SMART CITY PROGRAMS.
Simulate the entire South kanara district..Mangalore city on 3 d Perspective..super imposed...
with 100% Infrastructure starting from Ullal till Goa..

Problem with the Politicians are they simply blabber promises whenever one or more delegation visit them. They will sanction orally, and the people praise them thinking this has been done. Nobody asks them what about the old promises. Pumpwell Bus Stand still limping, Kankanady Market, Urva Market, So many Markets in the City are stinking. Now we are talking about SMART CITY project. Already the first phase is taking off from the Blue Print ((as they are claiming). Finish it first then hoodwink the public. We are not fools to believe.

Now (not finally) again they realised that Central Market should be upgraded... Howmany times these issues have entered their brains but finally forget everything like a student appearing for exam with few topics byheared.... If you are really committed, plan it properly and no further updations afeter laying down the foundation stone by Minsters..... Every aspect of this project should be hoasted in public domain and in papers.... including the cost involved and time required... Also give provision for proper parking for GAADI, AUTO, TEMPO, PRIVATE VEHICLES, TWO WHEELERS ETC.... With security of course.... ALSO a good place to dump the dirty rotting stuffs and clearing them everyday by 7 Am.. with proper supervision of MCC Health officers.... No Cow/dog/cat should be allowd to enter the market or roads at any cost.... proper path way for commuters and no sudden turning of Auto .... purely One way for for all vehicles....
Then only this might help Mangalore citizens and visitors...

First of all finish the project which is half finished. Then talk about Central market. First they will demolish the present building then they take 10 years to complete it. If they demolish old building then street vendors will increase.
