PM Modi has lied to nation on Rafale: Rahul

New Delhi, Jul 20 (IANS): Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday said French President Emmanuel Macron had told him that there was no secrecy pact with India on the Rafale jet deal, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had lied to the nation about it.

"I personally met the French President and asked him if there was a secrecy pact with India. He told me that no such pact was signed between the two countries. He said he had no hesitation in saying this and that I can tell this to my country," Gandhi thundered in the Lok Sabha.

Gandhi said the price per plane during the UPA regime was Rs 520 crore but when Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to France and "with some magic" powers, the price per plane increased to Rs 1,600 crore.

"Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is here. She said she would reveal the price. But after that she said clearly she cannot because the French and Indian governments have a secrecy pact.

"The Prime Minister has lied to the country. Sitharaman under pressure from the Prime Minister has lied to the country. They must tell the nation. The Prime Minister and the Defence Minister must tell the nation."

The mention of the Rafale deal triggered noisy protests from the ruling party MPs.

When it comes to 'Rafale' deal PM Modi can no longer evade questions on dubious Rafale deal.
The questionable decisions included the scrapping of 95% of the completed negotiations on RFP, rejection of Hindustan Aeronautical Ltd as the Indian partner and the critical Transfer of Technology from France to India. Then there was also PM Modi’s unilateral announcement of the purchase of 36 units of Rafale jets without the relevant cabinet committee’s approvals coupled with Dassault Aviation’s selection of Anil Ambani’s Reliance Defence and Aerospace as the Joint Venture partner.

In the interview to NDTV and in another to Doordarshan in April 2015, Parrikar stressed the point of price per aircraft to be around Rs 715 crore. In some other interactions with TV journalists later, he stressed the same and repeated that the government of the day was not in a position to spend Rs 90,000 crore for 126 aircraft. But he never bothered to clarify the logic of spending almost Rs 60,000 crore for 36 aircraft.

In another interaction with journalists, Parrikar said that India did not need 126 Rafale aircraft and it would have cost Rs 1.3 lakh crore. Here too, he did not bother to clarify how he had suddenly arrived at the difference of Rs 40,000 crore from the amount he had originally stated?

Here is the simple analogy of the same deal'
    UPA NDA
Rs 90,000 crores Rs. 60,000 crores.
    126 Aircraft 36 Aircraft
    Rs. 714 Crores/Aircraft Rs, 1666 Crores/Aircraft
Transfer of technology No transfer of technology.
    to HAL.
Today, the Air Force has 34 Squadrons. Our requirement is 45 Squadrons if you want two front contingency.”
    1. Why did PM Modi make a unilateral decision for 36 aircraft only?
    2. How does 'Zero experience' Reliance aerospace will help India achieve 'Make in India'?
    3. Is just an additional squad will safeguard India's defense interest?
    4. Why is the price 3 times?

The party led by a family for so long had made so much money by corrupt ways. Congress party, if it has any chance of not wiped off from India, has to immediately change the president, since there is hardly any time left to prepare for the elections. This is becoming so childish and no match to BJP at the moment and all regional parties are showing their muscles. Congress is a age old party should keep its prestige as a party and not as a family name.

Only French President can help Modi

If the French President say that Rahul Gandhi is lying and he has not said anything what Rahul has said in the Parliament then Modi is safe....

If the French President keeps quiet or acknowledge Rahul’s statement then God help Modi...///

I am not an ardent fan of Rahul Gandhi. I personally believe there are better persons to lead the Congress. Having said that, the way he spoke in Parliament and the way he exposed the wrong doings of the BJP, even his worst critics would stand up and applaud. This certainly augurs well for Indian democracy. Our country needs a strong opposition leader so that the ruling party does not behave according to its whims and fancies. Whoever is in power should be asked questions whenever they go wrong and the way Rahul stood up and demanded questions of the PM is exemplary. He ripped the PM to shreds and exposed his lies, the favours he granted his business friends at the cost of the country and the injustice meted out to our farmers. It is another matter that if and when the Congress comes to power, they will also favour their friends just like the BJP is doing now. If Ambani and Adani are enjoying now, tomorrow it could be someone close to the Congress. They will favour such people. Nobody is bothered about the common persons like you and me.

It's very bold of Rahul Gandhi to expose PM and Nirmala in front of them!. Now they will not answer Rahul in LS but will give some bhashan in a remote place!. PM and DM have to answer why they lied to the nation if what Rahul said is true!!!!

Nothing in the speech. He was more nervous than anyone else while saying "PM bar me jaate hain". But one should appreciate his speech for that long, with some prompting from other members though. Also, interesting to watch him speak as this could be his last speech on the floor as main opposition. Appreciate him admit that he is indeed a pappu.
