Bengaluru, Jul 20 : The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL), which operates the Namma Metro, and Infosys Foundation entered into a pact by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of chief minister H D Kumaraswamy to sponsor the construction and maintenance of Konappana Agrahara Metro station in the Electronics City at the Conference hall of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on Thursday.
The Infosys foundation has agreed to donate Rs 200 crore for the project.
Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy said Namma Metro is inevitable to Bengaluru to meet the demands of a growing city.
The first phase of Metro has covered 47 kms in the city and the works for second phase has begun.
He appreciated Infosys Foundation for joining hands with the Government in this noble cause.
The foundation's decision to maintain the station for the next 30 years shows Dr Sudha Murthy's commitment and love for her State, he said.
Infosys has reached great heights gradually scaling over the decades and it has utilized a part of its profit through Infosys Foundation for various social causes like cancer Institute, in the field of Education etc.
They have made a significant contribution for the development of the State, he described. He assured that the Government will make the best use of the contribution of Infosys Foundation.
Dr Sudha Murthy, chairperson of Infosys Foundation, said joining hands with the State is for its development is not charity.
It is our duty towards our State, she said pointing out that Namma Metro has played a major role in reducing traffic congestion in Bengaluru. The pleasure in working for people is unmatched, she said.
Dr G Parameshwara, deputy chief minister and Minister for Bengaluru Development, said Bengaluru is a fastest growing city not only in Asia but also in the world.
Namma Metro has come up as a boon while commuting from one part to another part of the city is a big challenge.
He appreciated Infosys Foundation for being part of the second phase of Metro and urged other corporates of the State to follow its lead.
