Mangaluru: Why do we need MP who cannot construct 40 km road? - MLC Ivan

Mangaluru, Jul 17: "Because of the unscientific work that is being carried out on NH 66, the number of accidents is rising. Why do we need a member of parliament (MP), who cannot construct a 40 kilometre road? How many more years are required to complete the work?" questioned, Ivan D'Souza, MLC.

He was speaking at a press conference conducted in his office on Monday, July 16.

Continuing his barrage against MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Ivan said, "Drainage water that needs to be flown in a drain is flowing on the road in areas like Pumpwell, Nanthoor, Kottara Chowki and Mulky. The toll charges are being collected without completing the highway work. Is it right on the part of the MP to express helplessness in stopping the collection of toll charges?”

"It has been 10 years since Nalin Kumar Kateel became the MP of Dakshina Kannada district. Prior to him, D V Sadananda Gowda was the MP. During this period they have not done any development except constructing state and national highways. Though the national highway is in a bad condition, maintenance of the same is not done. Flyovers in both districts including the one at Padubidri are not completed,” he added.

"What is the mystery behind the silence of both Shobha Karandlaje and Nalin Kumar Kateel? If the highway work is not completed, we might have to resort to protest by stalling the traffic on highways," he warned.

Our leaders are interested in projects of crores till the sanction of fund and for the percentage of money earned by that from contractors and not interested in completion of the work.
The rural road and irrigation works are ignored. Agriculture works in rural area is scrawling in this monsoon due to the pathetic conditions of road and irrigation cannals dumped with mud and fence around.

Just a half kilometer mud road in Chelairu panchayath area from MRPL colony to Karithota has become difficult both for human and vehicle movement. But it is ignored by all members of Panchayath to Parliament despite of our several appeals to the concerned.

Maintenance of works done is more important than sending Action Plan and get it sanctioned. Once 50% work is completed they will get their ratio from contractor and ignore or forget the work.

Mangalore to Byndoor Service road work is yet to be completed and the drainage formed is filled with mud and garbage. They will visit and show their sympathy during monsoon when flood comes and do not provide fund for precautionary measure before monsoon.

We are wasting by paying tax out of our hard earned money.

I agree anyone can ask MP but not the Ivan who has no moral right to ask because he himself is a non elected mlc of state and has done nothing to his native place or to Mnglr. Regard g Kamath and shetty they r elected recently and they have done what best an be done by opposite party MLA in such situation. Khader being a minister has failed in helping the ppl of Mnglr

This time you absolutely got it right Ivan. South Kanara district is taken back by around twenty years by the combined efforts of MPs for the last twenty years. work done by Ullal Srinivas Mallya, Janardan Poojary, TA Pai, etc has been undone by their successors such as DV Sadananda Gowda and presently Nalin Kumar Kateel. Can they name one project which has benefitted the district? How long can they keep us on this fallacy. A small problem like the Pumpwell bridge, Thokkottu bridge could not be solved by representative of almost ten lakh people, what else he can do? He has lines of explanations for the problem. We don't want excuses but work. For a MP it takes eight years to solve this problem then where is the hope that he will do anything for the district. As a person who is deeply in pond the district and its people I can only plead my helplessness with people and request them to think who should represent them. Religious divide will only reverse progress, we have already travelled back by twenty five years. We cannot travel back as a progressive district and become backward like Bihar and UP. If we don't wake up now to the realities in next twenty-five years will be left to remember the good hold times our ancestors expeirenced. Tuluva people who are always progressive in thinking should come with a road map for their own sake. I pray.
