Bidar lynching case: Victim missed hometown, returned from Qatar 6 months ago

Daijiworld Media Network – Bidar (DC)

Bidar, Jul 16: Mohammed Azam (32), victim of recent WhatsApp-driven rumours of child kidnapping in Bidar that led to mob lynching, had returned to Hyderabad from Qatar six months ago, since he missed his hometown.

Aslam, younger brother of the victim said, "Mohammed Azam, a software engineer, had joined IT major Accenture three months ago and was currently working with Google on a project. Azam had completed his B Tech from Deccan College of Engineering and went for higher studies to UK in 2012. After returning from the UK, he joined Tech Mahindra and later found a job in Qatar," Aslam added that his brother was not happy there because he missed Hyderabad. "He returned and joined Accenture," he added.

Aslam further said, "He had married four years ago and has a two-year-old son. Thursday and Friday were his weekly off days and when our cousins Mohammed Salman and Noor Mohammed asked him to join them on a ride to Bidar, he went along. Police did not inform us about the incident. I returned from work around 2 am and started calling his cell phone. Around 3 am, a policeman answered the phone and said Azam was injured and in hospital."

Azam’s cousin Mohammed Salman (20) said that his brother was recovering. "But he is still in shock. He will be discharged on Monday," he said.

Meanwhile, an official from Yashoda Hospital at Malakpet said that Salham Eidal Kubaisi (38), the Qatar national injured in the mob attack, who is a police inspector in Doha, was feeling fine. "He requested us to discharge him immediately," official said.

Salham’s wife Zaibunissa said that he was traumatised and wanted to return home. "He is flying back to Doha Sunday night," she said.

Noor Mohammed (30), a distant cousin of Azam and Salman, has already been discharged from the hospital.

It may be recalled that on Saturday July 14, Mohammad Azam had gone for a drive with four others. They were stopped by people who saw one of Azam's friend Mohammed Salam distributing chocolates to children.

The residents of the area soon gathered in the area and involved in a verbal spat with men in car. Panicking, the men got into their car and drove away. They were chased by the residents on motorcycles and on the way the speeding car hit one of the motorcycles and fell into a culvert.

The men were dragged out of the car and were brutally beaten up, with none of the onlookers coming to their rescue. Azam died before police reached the spot and the other four cousins and friends of Azam were badly injured.

Please don't mix religion with politics. It is a dangerous concoction. We are from the most educated district in Karnataka. Think,.... if the political parties are to be taken out of this incident, would this have still happened? And the answer is.......YES. There is no point in accusing political parties for this mishap as there seems to be no evidence od causal association between the incident and political parties. Let's also not forget that there have been incidents in the past where children have been lured showing chocolate and raped. The important learning point here is the questionable role of social media in ensuring that the visitors not manage to escape. How can ordinary people without police help set up nakabandi ? That is goonda raj. Keep politics and religion out of your mind and think with a cool mind. If we, the people of dakshina Kannada start speaking/commenting like this, then we are no different to hooligans from Mandya or Bidar. So, P L E A S E.

Lynching must be stopped and punishment must be given to those involved within 3 months or earlier with fast track court's. Police inaction and political support given rise to mob lynching. People dont believe in God and law and order so they take own action on the street. May his soul rest in peace and may God grant his family strength to bear his loss.

My hearts goes with his family. Very sad incidence.. on other hand why to give chocolates.. Educated youths know what is going on in the country. Also they have to be more careful for obvious reason.

Yes and on our part we should cooperate genuinely without taking sides or bias on state govt efforts to nab the culprits starting from top without mercy. In fact I would say catch those culprits who are around us and hand them over to police asap. Good initiative sir.

Relax people this mob lynching is not forever. It will automatically stop once all our adversaries become obedient and do whatever we expect. It's not illegal as per our govt. policies but whoever opposes are anti nationals.

@Blind bhakth mangalore, sure mob lynching is not forever, but each time one life goes and other lives are in danger is too much.People should know not to attack anyone without proper reasons and only by seeing.First they should findout the cause, before starting to attack like wild animals.strange is noone comes forward when girls or small children are raped ,noone comes forward to save ,instead they join in.Heartfelt sympathy to the family of deceased.
