Udupi, Jul 16: There was a need of KSRTC bus stand here as between 400 and 500 buses ply from Udupi, the center of the district. There were attempts in the past to transfer 2.5 acres land with PWD to KSRTC for the purpose. But former chief minister Yeddyurappa, Sadananda Gowda and Jagadish Shettar had not consented to the move. However, former chief minister Siddaramaiah after unceasing efforts of Pramod Madhwaraj had agreed for it and reserved Rs 35 crore for bus stand works. Similarly former chief minister Siddaramaiah had laid foundation for the bus stand in January 2018.

The tender process for the bus stand costing Rs 29.82 crore is already over. The work will start in August. The long cherished dream of the people of district will be a reality. Udupi district Congress has expressed its joy with regard to the development. Twenty buses can be parked in the stand. As there is provision for vehicle parking, commercial complex and well equipped toilets, there is greater emphasis for basic necessities.

Congress leaders B Narasimha Murthy, Dinesh Putran, Alevooru Harish Kini, Diwaker Kunder, Bhasker Rao Kidiyoor, Sathish Ameen Padukere, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Sadashiva Kattegudde, Prakhyat Shetty, Prashanth Poojary and Yathish Karkera have congratulated former minister Pramod Madhwaraj who took initiative for implementation of the project.
