Mandya: One person washed away as excess water is released from KRS dam

Mandya, Jul 16: One person died and another was saved by fishermen when they came into contact with sudden gushing water released from Krishnarajasagar (KRS) dam.

The identity of the deceased person is not yet known. The person who is rescued by the fishermen is identified as Mahadev (35), son of Venkataiah, a resident of Kyanahalli village of Pandavapur taluk of Srirangapatna near here.

Mahadevu had gone to the middle of the river in his bike as there was no water and was sitting on a rock and consuming alcohol as he was upset over some personal issue. The stranger had also accompanied him to the river center.

As the water was released from the KRS dam, the portion in between the Ranganatittu Bird Sanctuary and Banagaradoddi canal got flooded and washed away the stranger. Mahadevu was fortunately rescued by the local fishermen.
