Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Jul 15: In the background of the issue of obstruction of vehicular traffic near the halls, when some programme takes place, a meeting was called by the police commissioner to resolve the issue with the owners and representatives of the various halls on Saturday, July 14.

T R Suresh, police commissioner, explained in detail the traffic chaos that is occurring due to the parking of vehicles on the road in front of the halls. He informed the owners and representatives that the vehicle owners should be instructed to park their vehicles inside the compound wall of the hall and not on the public road.

It might be recalled, recently police had registered cases against the owners of certain halls and the owners of vehicles parked on the public road for creating a traffic snarl.

Uma Prashant, DCP and Manjunath Shetty, ACP were present in the meeting.

First of all, who gave the permission for the building of Halls without parking? A thousand seat capacity hall needs to have at least 300 parking space. Any building with shops needs to have atleast three parking spaces per shop and any residential apartments need to have 2 parking spaces per flat. It also should be illegal for the builders to charge for the parking space.

Vehicle numbers have increased exceedingly. During any functions, it is imperative that the people should provide adequate parking lots failing which there will be congestion in already congested roads.

With regard to consumption of liquor, if the organisers get necessary permissions there should not be any objections in respect of consumption of liquor. It should however be mandatory that there should be designated drivers who do not consume liquor should alone drive the vehicles. These are procedures that are adapted in foreign countries.

Not only hall , but near the schools and colleges also. If function in any hall that day hall administration must inform about the programme,to traffic dept. so Police dept can keep more police force in front of the hall to control the Traffic. One more request with the party organisers that they mention in th invitation that NO PRESENTS PLEASE. LIKE they must mention on the card that ATTEND THE FUNCTION WITHOUT YOUR CAR. Please co operate.

We don't need hype, just tell us what is going to happen if the vehicle are parked on the road, obstructing the traffic. Keep the breakdown/tow vehicles ready. Any vehicle irrespective of his position need to be removed. Only then we believe what you say. Sometimes vehicle is parked with one Tyre is on the white boarder line. Just make them pay fine first, and next day onwards just tow them. No one will dare to repeat the offense.

Hospitals and Religious places should also be warned. They earn/charge fantastic amounts but do not provide basic parking facility.

Better to keep the car inside the compound of the hall because suppose if there is a party with liquor then we will be in further trouble.Thats why don't exceed the limit which is 60 ml of 2 pegs because safety comes first.
