Udupi, Jul 13: Condemning the state government for ignoring the interests of fisherfolk, a protest was staged by the fishing community at Hi-Tech Fish Market Udupi, near PPC road on Friday, July 13.

Baby Salian, who is a member of the Raw Fish Marketing Fisherwomen Association alleged that the coalition government is biased and is looking at the interests of only few districts while ignoring the coastal areas in the budget.

“Chief Minister Kumaraswamy has discriminated the coastal region. Fishermen are also like farmers. We also struggle hard to earn our livelihood. The government must provide loan of Rs 25,000 which is interest free. Just like farmer’s loans even the fishermen’s loans need to be waived off,” she demanded.

Apart from this, she complained about the poor maintenance of fish market, congestion due to lack of space, lack of toilets and water. The concerned department should address these problems, asserted Baby Salian.

“Though there were plans for the development of fishermen in the past budget, special attention is given to Ramanagar, Hassan and Mandya districts in the present budget. Is government practicing revenge politics? Fishing contributes to the revenue for this state. There is scope to attract tourists by providing more facilities. The fishermen association has given a memorandum to concerned department,” said another leader from fishing community Yatish Kotian.

The fishing community members demanded that the government should increase the subsidy amount for diesel and petrol. It should be directly distributed from the Food and Civil Supply Department. The State government must provide loans on zero interest. Matsashraya Yojana must be revived and Hejamady harbour should be constructed, they demanded.

This shows the actual reality of these hardworking fisherwomen and men.... Ex MLA is reponsible for this ... what he is doing when he was a MLA from same community ? Why raise issues on present MLA / Party which is elected ? Who is ruling our state... All DUFFERS / FEKUs joined hands to rule and ruin them.... Dont blame BJP or MODI for this problem.... Ask working chow chow baath govt. who did not responded to provide any facilities in his Budget recently..... HDK talks about ruling out Farmers Loans what about these fishermen, their Fuel for Boat and other facilities.... Dont you eat fish ?

Theses digital posters are expensive - who is providing them these posters.

Some people who have nothing else to do are behind them and provoking them to display them. If they refuse to display the signs they are told they will not allowed to sell fish in the market.

Well people voted for who they wanted and they are no where at the time most needed.

They are just few fish vendors in Udipi fish market. and they are putting posters as fishing community has be ignored by CM of Karnataka. Earlier they were at Beednia gudde udipi now they have been shifted and better market place with a clean environment due to efforts of Shri Pramod Madhwaraj which they forgotten. Now we all know who are forces behind these these fish vendors putting neat coulorful poster in their side. What way this community concerned with the temple collection money used by government for welfare measures. I t is nothing but a move by vested interest to get political mileage for certain politician who won recent election in coastal belt.
