Meat waste from Kerala dumped illegally in Puttur area, action taken

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (DC)

Puttur, Jul 13: A Kerala-based lorry carrying meat wastes and dumping it on Karnataka border areas illegally was caught red-handed by the public here near Baleguli in Irde village on Wednesday July 11.

The meat waste from chicken stalls in Kerala was transported in lorries and was dumped in public places coming under Vittal and Puttur station limits.

Despite several complaints from the locals, the gram panchayat and the police had failed to take any action earlier.

On Wednesday, a lorry transporting huge stock of chicken waste stopped mid-way due to heavy rains on the mud road in Irde village. The matter came to light when the locals, who were passing-by, questioned the driver and two others. Meanwhile, locals who gathered in large numbers, asked the transporters to remove the waste dumped illegally and warned them not to dump in their village.

Later the waste was dumped in Puttur dumping yard after paying necessary fees.

Earlier a case was registered by Alike gram panchayat, after waste was found dumped in Billampadavu area. The police department too had swung into action and were patrolling in the area for the last few days.

On Wednesday July 11, after being informed by the locals, the police team from Puttur rural and Vittal station rushed to the spot and detained three persons from the lorry.

Since the Kerala government does not permit illegal waste disposal from slaughterhouses and impose fine, some traders engage lorries to dump the waste in Karnataka border . It is said that lorry owners are paid per sack of waste.

What a nuesence this keralites are doing?Bringing their animal waste and dumping there in karnataka ?Our karnataka govt.should be careful and warn ,if necessary make them to take back with fine.In the first place their govt should make them before starting the trade to arrange their waste in a compost or some other method.when not done cancel their trade, punish them. This animal waste dumping in public gives cause to spread many diseases It should be closed waste dumping .How come all these mosquitoes an dother diseases spread in and around mangalore.Next time when found doing this make them and take back ,and fine them.when repeated, put them inside.Give warning to related heaalth dept.Dont leave them simply.

Pls don't generalise the issue, don't blame entire Keralites for the acts of few illiterate idiots. it's like blaming Kannadiga's for illegally transporting Gutka's and liqueurs which are partially banned in KERALA.

Any bio waste is properly converted it can be used natural fertilizers. In turn this can be good source of income when the chemical based fertilizers are not affordable. This can be even converted as fish feed.

Just dumping in neighbours compound is not a solution. We in India talk about 'Smart city'. But when it comes to waste management we are far behind.

In Ireland Human waste is turned to generate electricity. In US agriculture and animal waste converted pellets to sell them to farmers.

Only in India we dump them at our convenience and start blaming each other. The problem is not dumping but find solution.

Just inside the border between Kerala and Karnataka at Talapady so much of garbage is dumped, I don't think it is done by people of surrounding area. That too on left side of the highway from Kerala, that makes one believe. they carry from that side and just dump after entering Karnataka border.
