RSS questions intent behind 'Sanju'

Mumbai, Jul 12 (IANS): RSS mouthpiece "Panchjanya" has questioned why Hindi cinema is fascinated by stories on "tainted characters", slamming the Sanjay Dutt biopic "Sanju" in a strong way.

"Panchajanya" has minced no words as it delved on the dark phases in the life of Sanjay, who spent a jail term for possession of arms in connection with the 1993 serial blasts, was a drug addict and had multiple relationships in its cover story titled "Kirdaar, daaghdaar".

The magazine article raises three questions about the Rajkumar Hirani directorial and Ranbir Kapoor-starrer, which has been on a box office earning spree since releasing on June 29.

It questions whether Sanjay, son of late actors Sunil and Nargis Dutt, had qualities that his life story should be glamourized on the big screen or be portrayed as if he is an idol.

And if the makers are boasting about the money that the film is minting, it proves that Indian cinema's "high moral ground seems to be licking dust".

Secondly, it questions if the movie is a PR exercise to whitewash a stained character because it either conceals a lot of negative things about a character who has been jailed multiple times and had been a drug addict.

"Panchajanya" has also hit out at the film's director Hirani, pointing out how through his past movie "PK" he had made a sly remark on Hindu religion.

"Now with 'Sanju', what are the ideals that Hirani wants to present to the youth of India?"

It also questions if Sanjay has done any extraordinary work which is worthy of praise or has he abstained from drugs completely and become an ideal husband and actor.

The larger question, however, according to the article, remains why the Mumbai film industry brings the mafia and underworld into spotlight by making films on India's most wanted criminals who have a connect with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts -- sometimes on Dawood Ibrahim or his sister Haseena Parkar or Chhota Rajan or Arun Gawli.

"There's talk on social media, questioning if this is being orchestrated by someone. Who is funding these projects?" the article asks, in reference to films like "Raees", "Haseena Parkar", "D-Day", "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai" and "Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara".

It points out that while the international film world is making a movie like "The Man Who Knew Infinity", based on mathematician S. Ramanujan -- an Indian who made the country proud, Bollywood is making cinema on the underworld and mafia dons.

Bollywood movie lines scripted by some can't be 100% someone's life story.

Let’s rewind to the 1993 Mumbai blasts. The minute Sanjay Dutt’s name cropped up following investigations, the film industry went into a shock. Sunil Dutt was a Congress MP and extremely respected in the film industry. Sunil Dutt went from door to door, approaching everyone who could help his son. Neither the then chief minister, nor the then prime minister or any other minister helped him out.
In 1995, Shiv Sena and the BJP alliance took over from the erstwhile Congress govt. Bal Thackeray hd complete control of the newly formed government

When Sunil Dutt found help from nowhere else, his in-law Rajendra Kumar and actor Shatrughan Sinha advised him that if there was anyone who could help, it was Thackeray.

After being released on bail, Sanjay Dutt headed straight to the Siddhi Vinayak temple. From there, instead of going home, he went to meet Bal Thackeray at his residence ‘Matoshree’. Dutt touched his feet and sought his blessings.
He gave theatre owner Ajay Marwah a 9 mm pistol during the 1993 Mumbai riots. Marwah had to make rounds of the TADA (Terrorist And Disruptive Activities (Prevention)) court for 13 years before being acquitted .

Why Is the Crucial Bal Thackeray Episode Missing from ‘Sanju’? Shiv Sena is coalition partner of the RSS political wing BJP in Maharashtra state assembly. Is exclusion of Ba Thackeray from 'Sanju' is not face saving for BJP?
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh should take this movie as a story. In real life there are no songs are there.
In the past it was 'Karni Sena' , now it is RSS turn. Is This fanatic organisation will ever come out of narrow thinking?
    Jai Hind

If you like you can watch the movie if you don't, don't watch, no force. It's democracy, you can not convince others not to appreciate the movie. It's just like eating beef, if you like eat it, if you don't, don't eat it, nobody is forcing you. If you like you can even eat Gobar and drink Gomuthra.

Sanjay Dutt is not a Saint... He very well knew what he was doing. If he didn't knew whole plan of his friends, he had little knowledge of what's cooking between them. He could have saved some people, but he didn't passed information to the police. The bomb which blew not only killed Hindus, but also killed Muslims & Christians. Don't blindly support Sanjay Dutt, simply because you have ideology difference with RSS.

RSS should know that film producers/ directors aren't social reformers, they make films to cater to the taste of the masses so that they too can make a buck or two. It's very much evident if you compare the box office collection of the two films quoted by RSS : Man who knew Infinity a 2015 British film had netted 1.2 million $, roughly equal to 14 crores rupees whereas Sanju has grossed 285 crore rupees in 13 days so far.

    Moron & dynasty chela
Feroze Khan, H/o Indira, was a Muslim, son of Jehangir Khan , shop keeper in Allahabad and were grocers to Nehru Family.   After Jehangir Khan's untimely death , the widow got married to a Parsi having surname Ghandy , not Gandhi. Parsis have no Gandhi surname. This is how 'Gandhi' surname was hijacked.

Indira Gandhi was Nehru's daughter and not son FYI. She was married to Feroze Gandhi. Now don't ask why she didn't continue her maiden surname instead of adopting husband's surname for heaven's sake!

Kishore, Feroze Ghandy was a Parsi not Muslim. I can challenge if you can prove he is a Muslim from any genuine source not fake. Ghandy is a very common surname among Parsis.

This misconception is deliberately spread in loose media. If he really was a Muslim the fanatics right from local corporators to the PM would have shouted on top of the voice. They don't because they know it is not the truth.

Anuradha Ghandy, Kikkoo Ghandy, Kobad Ghandy, Jehangir Ghandy etc are some of the well known Indian Parsi Ghandys.

And what difference does it make for you people whether it is Ghandy or Gandhi. Naturam Godse would have anyway killed without checking the spelling.
