Beltangady, Jul 12: In an incident reported from Sulkeri in the taluk, two young men are found to have promised two sisters of marrying them and raped them repeatedly. Case of rape and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual offences Act have been invoked against the two men who stand arrested.

The arrested young men have been identified as Sharath (21) from Mala village and Prakash from Sulkeri. Cases against them have been registered at Venur police station. On being produced in court, the two were remanded to 15 days of judicial custody.

The two sisters, aged 17 and 15, natives of Eedu village had begun work at a cashew factory near here and for that reason had begun to stay with the family of their paternal uncle at Sulkeri. The two young men, who are distant relatives of this family, used to frequent the house at Sulkeri where the sisters are living. In course of time, both of them succeeded in striking a close relationship with the girls. By promising the girls to marry them, they are said to have used them physically on a number of occasions.

When the father of the girls recently visited the home of his younger brother to see his children, both were not at home. On making enquiries, he came to learn that his daughters were in love with the two boys. Thereafter, he filed a complaint at Venur police station. The police summoned the girls to the station, collected information and got them examined. The fact that they had been raped was proved.

On the basis of a complaint made by the father, the police have arrested the two boys. Out of the two girls, the elder one is said to have become pregnant. The girls were entrusted to the care of Childline.
