Mangaluru: Koraga families living in shambles assured houses by DC

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Every individual or family dream to own a house. But there are many families which are still looking for a roof over their heads. One among them is a family which leads its life in a house made of tarpaulin near Kulshekar over-bridge, an unbelievable situation in the proposed Smart City.

The two Koraga families reside in those houses from several years without any basic facilities. It is unfortunate that none of the schemes from the government has reached them to change their lives. Moreover, the problem has even remained unnoticed by Mangaluru City Corporation.

Raju and Vijaya, and Nagesh and Priya couple along with their five children live in these houses near Kulshekar over-bridge. They do not have facilities of water, electricity, and toilet. Both Vijaya and Priya are housewives while Raju and Nagesh are coolie workers. They have admitted their children to a government school at Bikarnakatta. The lives of the two families have become miserable as they depend on coolie work for their survival. Constructing a new house is only a dream for them.

These families have constantly visited government offices to get water and electricity facilities, but end up with no response from the concerned departments. The five children, pursuing their studies at government schools, after returning from the school, have to bring water from other places. After finishing their house work, they will sit for studies under street lights or chimneys.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sasikanth Senthil, when came to know about the plight of the families, assured to look into the matter. He said that necessary steps will be taken to provide them permanent houses. The DC said that he would check if any house was vacant at Kulshekar Kotimura Koraga colony.

As per the direction of the DC, the process of providing permanent houses to the two families has already commenced and MCC officials have visited their houses near Kulshekar over-bridge.

Daijiworld TV had reported about the plight of these families.

Even though you are doing coolie work, you can save bit money and change your life style. Though there is no proper land, you can maintain the present house with bit improvement. All you need to visit the wine shop every evening and spend your hard earned money..!

So many vacancies in Government due to non availability of SC/ST candidates. Why these Koraga families did not utilize these programs? Why their representatives (SC/ST MLA and MPs) are not taking care of it? Why Dalita Sangharsha Samithi is not taking care of their interests? Why AHINDA leaders are silent on giving the due facilities to these Koragas?

All their Sangha, samithi's only to make money & politics, they are not bothered about their community. Secular parties have to take blame for such a plight of the two families, because they claim they are the saviours of the dalits. 70 years on still limping on roti, kapda, makaan. Garibi hataao...!!!! All slogans good to pronounce but no action...
