Daijiworld Media Network - Karwar (SP)

Karwar, Jul 11: Two Border Security Force (BSF) Jawans from Karnataka lost their lives together after an improvised landmine exploded at Kanker in Bustar division of Chhattisgarh state. The explosion was triggered by Maoists on Monday July 9 morning.

The deceased were Vijayanand Suresh Naik (28) from Karwar, and his friend, Santosh Laxman Guruva (27), resident of Halaga, Khanapur taluk, Belagavi district.

The BSF contingent was at its camp at Marbida. As soon as they came to know about the movement of naxals at Tadabul seven kilometres away, the soldiers left for that place in motor bikes. After a landmine went off when the motor bike of Vijayanand and Santosh was moving over it, both suffered serious injuries. BSF sources said that both were admitted into hospital immediately but their lives could not be saved.

Vijayanand and Santosh were close friends and they liked to spend time together. Destiny united them even in their deaths.

As per information received here, Vijayanand's body will reach the office of the district deputy commissioner here at 7 am on Wednesday. After state honours are extended, the mortal remains will be taken to his residence, it is gathered.
