Karnataka Budget July 2018: Petrol, power, liquor costlier, opposition slams HDK govt

Read the entire budget here

2.26 pm: "What petrol hike is the BJP talking about? Karnataka has one of the lowest petrol rates in India. Even diesel is cheaper than in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. After BJP came to power at the centre under PM Modi, they increased petrol prices by 9 times. BJP MLAs need to protest in Delhi, not here. We had to increase the petrol price to waive farmer loans. Even Jagadish Shettar had increased VAT when he was chief minister of the BJP government in Karnataka": HDK

2.23 pm: "BJP people have no idea what they are talking about. They say the budget is limited to Hassan, but let me remind them, Revanna is not the MLA of Hassan. The MLA of Hassan is from BJP. They are asking about what has been alloted to coastal and north Karnataka regions. As said before, we will continue the schemes initiated by the previous Siddaramaiah government in coastal region and others parts of Karnataka": HDK

2.21 pm: "We are also determined to complete all the irrigation projects pending in the state": HDK

2.18 pm: HDK also denies allegations that nothing was announced to fix Bengaluru roads, gives a list of allocations for various areas of Bengaluru. "We have allocated Rs 15,825 crore for Bengaluru roads over the course of next four years."

2.15 pm: "We have not put any burden on the state economy by announcing farm loan waiver": HDK

2.10 pm: "We presented our first budget as coalition government. No one needs to feel disappointed. We had said we would continue all the schemes announced by the previous government on February 16 this year. I did not repeat them while presenting the budget today as it would have taken over 6 hours. The allocation for minorities and other communities will continue as announced by the previous government, so there is no reason for anyone to feel disappointed": HDK

2.09 pm: Kumaraswamy addresses press meet.

2.05 pm: "This is a budget of the two brothers (HDK and Revanna). We will discuss the budget as well as our further course of action on July 12": Yeddyurappa.

2.03 pm: H K Patil expressed dissatisfaction over not alloting funds or new projects for north Karnataka.

2 pm: "We have waived farmers' loans as promised. Both the coalition parties have together passed the budget," says former CM and head of coordnation committee Siddaramaiah

1.57 pm: Opposition leader B S Yeddyurappa slams the budget. "The coalition government should feel ashamed of this budget. It should be ashamed of telling lies to the people. It is a betrayal. Is this why you have been made the chief minister?" Yeddyurappa lashes out.

1.44 pm: Opposition MLAs also point out that even north Karnataka has been ignored in the budget.

1.41 pm: MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary also criticizes the budget, stating that the farm loan waiver is not as much as expected. "This is not complete waiver of farm loans."

1.40 pm: Sources say HDK government's own MLAs and ministers are unhappy over not being given funds to their regions and communities for development.

1.38 pm: Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath slams HDK for ignoring the coastal region. "We had urged for special funds for the rain-damaged coastal region, but we got nothing. There is no allocation for coastal development, not even for roads. This is injustice to the people of coastal region and we strongly condemn this."

1.36 pm: Sources say soon after the budget presentation, ministers U T Khader and Zameer Ahmed Khan approached HDK to express displeasure over not announcing any allocation for minorities. HDK is learnt to have told them that it would be taken care of in the next budget.

1.33 pm: BJP leader R Ashok lambasts HDK's budget. "There is no mention about fixing the potholes in Bengaluru, and no mention of Kolar and coastal region either. Petrol and power prices have been hiked - this will increase the burden on the poor. It is not at all a people-friendly budget. We are going to protest."

1.29 pm: Former CM and BJP leader Jagadish Shettar slams HDK's budget. "Allocation for various important sectors like urban development, irrigation and others have been reduced, instead, there is hike on petrol," he says.

1.28 pm: "We were expecting new announcements for fisheries and endosulfan victims in coastal region. But the JD(S)-Congress coalition has completely neglected the people of coastal Karnataka and betrayed them," BJP MLAs say

1.24 pm: BJP MLAs from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi submit hand-written letter of protest over not making any annoucements for coastal Karnataka. "Is Kumaraswamy the CM of only Old Mysuru region?" they ask.

1.21 pm: BJP MLAs allege that all new projects have been announced only for places where JD(S) leaders are MLAs.

If the government is keen to waive off farmer loans, they can identify the farmers who are really in distress and waive their loans off on a case-to-case basis instead of loan waiver on a whole, which in turn burdens the common tax-paying citizens.

It is same old story for all the Politician and all Party. Just increase the Petrol and diesel price and hit the common man , As they know once this is increased the Price of all Commodity will go up. Who told you to waive the farm loan when you don’t have sufficient income . Just hit the common man and please stop comparing to other states. See what you have done for the state.
Also provide salary for the youth who are unemployed too

In India only the Politician class are getting richer and richer, where is Rahul Gandhi now that day he was opposing for price rise now they also did the same.

I am not supporter of any part as all are same for me who just think of themselves and their family and how to make money

Everything is hiked, petrol, hsd, power, driving license fees, food license fees... Etc. Etc..... Just to waive farmloan of 34000 cr. Out of which more than 70% farmers would have managed without weiver.
The rest of the people will pay additional tax to fulfill the political ambitions of kumarswamy.
Siddu gave free rice, people didn't vote back, when are these politicians will learn, giving free or waiving loans won't gurantee them power in next election.
Every five years, farm loan is waived and the burden is shifted to other common people.
Let see if mlas can give their one year salary?
We are doomed democracy due to appeasement politics.
