Udupi: Miscreants damage seats at sea walkway, public entry banned at night

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Jun 24: In a shameful incident, miscreants damaged the granite seats on either sides of the sea walkway at Malpe here. It is said that the act was committed a few days ago.

A few months ago, some miscreants had damaged the sculpture of a fishermen’s family made by artist Purushottam Adve. It was later repaired. But now for the second time a group of miscreants have damaged the seats, thereby spoiling the beauty of the sea walkway.

Taking serious note of the incident, Malpe beach development committee has decided to install CCTVs and a gate at the entrance of the walkway. The damages will be repaired soon, informed Sudesh of Malpe beach development committee. The loss incurred has not yet been estimated. In addition, he said that the committee contacted Malpe police sub-inspector and decided to register a complaint.

"We have decided to stop public's entry into the sea walkway after 9 pm. We do not know who has committed the act. We had a word with the circle inspector and the sub-inspector of Malpe police station," said Sudesh.

According to Sudesh, the committee is not getting any cooperation from tourists with regard to the maintenance of cleanliness at the sea walkway and its surroundings. Liquor and soft drink bottles, plastics and other waste are being strewn. In addition, some people ride two-wheelers in the walkway which damages the flooring. To prevent all these acts, the committee will install a gate at the entrance.

"Tourists must protect this beautiful landmark of Udupi instead of spoiling its beauty. The deputy commissioner and the beach committee have to take serious action against miscreants," Sudesh said.

The sea walkway, the first in the state, was inaugurated at the tourist jetty at Malpe here on January 27 this year. The breathtaking structure was constructed at a cost of Rs 53.5 lac. With slip-proof floor below, the walkway is 450 metre long and 2.4 metre wide.

Three islands namely St Mary's Island, Light House Island, and Bhadargad Island can be seen from the walkway.

    Height of Indian culture!!

I think it is also a ploy to discredit Pramod Madhwaraj.

Entry should be restricted by payment of fees only, so that proper security and cleanliness can be maintained round the clock.

Why not charge 20 rupees for entry. It will keep the rednecks out. And maybe in a year develop with more beautiful lamps and sculptors and then charge 50 rupees. It's an easy solution. You will always see genuine people rushing into the walk and would.

This type of behavior of our citizens with regard to public property is deplorable.
If we see the civic sense, the love and motivation of citizens of other countries towards their nation, we have to bow our head in shame. Even our politicians do not have love and motivation towards the nation, except their chair and gathering wealth for generations. Let me show an example of love and motivation:

In a place, some people living in high mountains, came to low lands and took a baby with them. People on low lands decided to bring the baby back and sent two strong men to mountain. Since these people did not know to climb the mountain, they felt very difficult to reach, and halfway, decided to come down. When they started to return, they found the mother coming down with the baby. In surprise they asked the woman, even being so frail, how could she climb the mountain, when they themselves being so strong, could not. Woman replied "because this is not your baby." Love and motivation that is needed in the citizens, is lacking in our country.
