Mangaluru, Jun 23: Lokayukta Justice Vishwanath Shetty gave a surprise visit to Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals in the city on Friday, June 22 and inquired about the issues encountered by the hospitals.

The Lokayukta, who had come on an official visit to Bantwal on the night of Thursday June 21, visited both the hospitals on Friday. He noticed girl students waiting for their medical checkup at Wenlock hospital. On inquiring, the students told the Lokayukta that they were students residing in a hostel and had come for a health checkup. However, Justice Vishwanath, who noticed that the girl students were not accompanied by their warden, felt that it was not right for the girls to have come out of the hostel without their warden and instructed the officials on the spot to serve notice in this regard to DDPI of the district, the officer concerned of the social welfare department and the warden of the hostel.

Justice Vishwanath then inspected the new building, ICU and patient wards of the Wenlock hospital. He also asked for information on the treatment methods that were being offered to the public.

Bharathi, inspector, Lokayukta, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, officer of district health and family welfare and Dr Rajeshwari Devi, district surgeon were present on the occasion.

Letter to government about on Lady Goschen hospital

When the Lokayukta paid a visit to the Lady Goschen hospital, he noticed that it was difficult to walk in the corridor where beds have been put because all the wards are jam-packed with patients. Justice Vishwanath inquired about this situation with the superintendent of the hospital and questioned why the facilities were not shifted to the new building of the hospital yet.

The superintendent clarified that the new building of the hospital was ready, but the required instruments had still not arrived. In addition, medical officers and staff need to be recruited, because of which the shifting was getting delayed.

The Lokayukta questioned the superintendent of the hospital as to how shifting to the new building was possible without the basic infrastructure and the requisite staff. He said, "It is not right to not shift the patients to the new building even after it is ready. A letter will be written to the government in this regard," he said.

This visit is only a formality. No use.

    1. Corruption is at core in RTO, police station, sub registrar offices, tax offices etc. Send your people there and register cases and see they are punished.

    2. Take information from people pro actively and punish the corrupt effectively.

    3. Issue the list of corrupt people to the press regularly and shame them.

    4. Most important is keep an eye on corrupt ministers and punish them.

Despite the heavy crowd and dirt this is the safe place for new mothers because they dont send them to c section unnecessarily. Doctors and nurses are very kind and caring, the charges are within the reaches of common people.
