Kundapur, Jun 22: A woman here has filed a complaint at the town police station against her husband. She has accused her husband of pestering her to give her a nod for their divorce since the last six months and physically and mentally torturing her in pursuance of this demand. She also says that he tried to kill her.

The complainant, Safiya from Kody here, has charged her husband, Sayyed Mohammed of incessant mental and physical harassment. "My husband attacked me with an iron rod on June 15 this year with the motive of killing me. He also threatened to murder my two children and me if I refuse the divorce," she stated in the complaint. Safiya, who was seriously injured is being treated at the government hospital here.

The woman says that she married Sayyed from Kody ten years back and that the couple has two daughters. She says that since the last six months, her husband had been expressing the desire to marry another woman. "As I was not agreeable, he began to physically and verbally abuse me after I refused to agree to his demand. For the sake of my children, I tolerated all the torture without retaliating. On June 15, my husband came home armed with an iron rod at around 2 pm and thrashed me. He then brought a knife from a room and stabbed me, duly repeating his demand for divorce. I somehow escaped from his further attacks," she explained.

The police, who have booked Sayyed Mohammed under sections 307 and 409 of Indian Penal Code, have launched an investigation.
