Mangaluru, Jun 21: DCP law and order Hanumantharaya inaugurated charity programme Citizen Alliance to Uphold Service and Exchange shortly known as 'CAUSE', at St Aloysius PU College on Wednesday, June 20.

CAUSE group of St Aloysius PU College distributed notebooks to 82 needy students of St Aloysius Evening College.

Addressing the gathering, DCP Hanumantharaya said, "I wish the students good luck in all their future endeavours. We are lucky enough to go to college, but some students, facing difficulties, attend evening college and work in the day time. We should help such students. CAUSE group has taken this initiative for a good cause indeed.

"The police department is concerned about students, as a few fall prey to drug abuse. Life is precious, enjoy it but do not indulge in any bad activities. Many of the students are on mobiles phones all the time. I have served all over Karnataka, but find Mangaluru is a place where many are active on social media which has led mobile phone abuse.

"Many fall into trouble when they hurt someone’s sentiments, religion or degrade our country while posting or replying to messages on WhatsApp or Facebook. As a student, do you all think this is all necessary? It is a waste of time and energy. It is time for us to learn and do things for the society.

"Traffic has been one of our main concerns. Students are seen going triple ride without helmet, breaking all the rules and regulations. Avoid such things and respect the law to keep yourself safe,” he said.

Chief whip of MCC Shashidhar Hegde said, "While we live in the society, we have certain responsibility. We should act as a brand ambassador in bringing changes in the society and students have that potential. Try to resolve problems you witness. CAUSE group is doing a tremendous job in the last four years helping the needy. I wish them the very best and hope that they continue to help the needy.”

Fr Melwin Mendonca, principal, St Aloysius PU College said, "I am overjoyed today as the students of day college and evening college have come together. Evening college students work in the day and come to college in the evening. The alumni of the college are trying to help these students to come up in life. They have contributed, raised funds and distributed books to the needy students.

"CAUSE has impressed me a lot. The group has positive energy and is enthusiastic to help others. CAUSE group has reached many people and donated generously. We are into the fifth year. CAUSE group has done a lot of good work in the last four years. I wish them the very best for their future endeavors.”

Event coordinator Suhan Alva, Mohammed Shahwaz, and Eshwar Shetty were present.

It is good to see Mr. Hanumanthraya attending and addressing the students at St. Aloysius College. Mr. Hanumanthraya is a strict Officer but a kind person and is available at any time supporting any good cause.

I have personally known this gentleman for some time now. I too had opportunities to go to him for assistance and it was pleasure to see his anxiety to help.

Hope he remains in Mangalore for a while. Postings are common in the Police Force. May he go on a posting but may return to Mangalore on promotion as a commissioner.
