Bantwal: Sri Rama Vidya Kendra Kalladka, first school in DK to get Atal Tinkering Lab

Bantwal, Jun 21: Sri Rama Vidya Kendra Kalladka has become the first school to be selected for setting up Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) of the NITI Aayog.

The ATLs are set up to foster creativity among young minds and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking and physical computing.

The lab will be first in Dakshina Kannada district and it will be inaugurated at Sri Rama Vidya Kendra on June 25.

The lab has been built in an area of 2,500 sq ft at the school. There will be a 3D printer, robots and more than 35 censors available for the students. The lab will be open to the students from Class 6th to Class 12th, 8 hours per day from 9 am to 5 pm every day.

The lab will be inaugurated by former president of ISRO A S Kiran Kumar. The inauguration will be presided over by Puttur Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha president Dr Prabhakara Bhat Kalladka.

Y Shivaramaiah, Dakshina Kannada deputy director of Public Instruction, Sri Ram school president B Narayana Somayaji will be the chief guests on the occasion.

There will be an interaction for the students of class 6 to 10 after the inaugural function, said Sri Ram School convener Vasanth Madhava.

Krishnaprasad Kayarkatte, principal of Sri Ram college, said, "The lab opened here in the school by NITI Aayog will help young minds to develop their innovative skills and make them successful scientists in the coming days."

Atal Tinkering

Atal Tinkering Labs are dedicated works spaces where students (Class 6th to Class 12th) learn innovation skills and develop ideas that will go on to transform India. The labs are powered to acquaint students with state-of-the-art equipment such as 3D printers, robotics & electronics development tools, IoT and sensors etc.

The lab activities are designed to spur the spark of creativity, and go beyond regular curriculum and text book learning. The labs will let students explore skills of future such as design and computational thinking, adaptive learning and artificial intelligence.
