Beltangady, Jun 19: A young boy was crushed under the wheels of a private bus reportedly on account of the negligence of the driver and conductor of the bus. This unfortunate incident happened at Karambaru in the taluk on the evening of Monday, June 18.

The victim of this accident was Chintan (8), son of Umesh Saphalya, resident of Darbepalke House, Karambaru. He was a third standard student of the government school at Karambaru.

Chintan, along with his mother and elder brother, had visited Puttur to attend a marriage function there on Monday. All the three returned to their village, Karambaru, by a private bus via Savanalu. The bus stopped near Darbepalke Bhajana Mandir at Karambaru to allow the family members to alight. Chintan's mother and elder brother had got down, and Chintan was also disembarking the bus when the driver is said to have moved the bus ahead on account of recklessness. The boy fell to the ground as a result, after which the wheels of the bus crushed him. The locals accused both the driver and conductor of the bus for carelessness and negligence.

The boy had sustained serious injuries and his condition had turned critical. Driver of the bus, identified as Shekhar, who took the boy and his mother in his bus to Shirlalu auto rickshaw stand some distance ahead, sent them to hospital by an auto rickshaw. The local people said that the driver showed his negligence also in admitting the boy to hospital. On Monday, after his trips for the day were completed, Shekhar parked the bus near a mill at Lalyila and went missing. The bus, it is said, is owned by Kiran Gowda from Savanalu.

A case about the tragedy was filed in Venoor police station. There are claims that the police made the boy's father to wait for an hour before they accompanied him. Local police circle inspector, Sandesh P G, visited the spot and collected details. The police said that the accused would be arrested immediately in view of the seriousness of the incident.

MLA, Harish Poonja, former MLA, K Vasant Bangera and other leaders visited the community hospital and pacified the grieving members of the family.
