Bengaluru, Jun 18: The newborn who was rescued by cops after being abandoned near a house under construction died following brain infection here.

The baby was rescued by the Electronics City police after a shopkeeper informed them about the newborn stuffed in a plastic bag and abandoned under a bush near a house under construction in Celebrity Layout, Doddathoguru. Police constable Archana, attached to the Electronic City police station and also a mother of three-month old baby had nursed the baby when it was brought to her station. Later the baby was shifted to Shishu Mandir on Hosur Road.

But after a day, the baby developed some health problems and was admitted to a hospital. The director of the hospital Asha Benakappa confirmed the death of the child. "The baby's brain was injured when it was brought here and it died on June 7 following brain infection."

Constable Archana too was in tears hearing the news of death of the baby whom she had nursed. "When the baby was brought to the station, it had injuries on the head. But we did not know that it would claim its life," she said.

The constable's humanitarian act of saving the abandoned newborn was appreciated by all including Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy who decided to meet her. But the news of the baby's death has come as a shock to many.

Politicians need only publicity. Probably no one looked after the baby properly. Let the baby be cared by god directly.

@Sanjay Hebri, dont write rubbish.when it is clearly said, baby had injury on head ,how can you say noone looked after the baby properly?First the parents themselves abandoned baby,so ther is no question of others care.Probably baby was born under bad condition (difficult birth),second was starved, infection too must have added to complete it.May this angel live happily above with angels.

If anyone is to be blamed for the tragic death, then it is the father and mother of the child. The parents have broken both the laws of our country and the laws of nature.

I do not know who they are or in what condition they had to abandon a new born child. But abandoning a new born child in a secluded area and exposing him to the forces of nature is MURDER. And I hope the police succeed in tracing both of them and charge them with that crime.

    Very sad. RIP little baby.

Hope the health officials are not ignoring the type of injury on the child - it could be from rabid canine. All those who came in contact must be vaccined without delay if the type of infection is detected.
