Puttur, Jun 18: "Officials should strive to create history by ensuring that even the last man in the society gets justice. Officials of every department should make it a habit to work at least eight hours sincerely. You should maintain your reputation in such a way that people do not think of you as a dishonest person, and you should work to drive away corruption. Our town is in need of this kind of people, and officials who fail to render their work efficiently have no place here. Employees who cannot work hard can go to the place of their choice. I will see that such people are transferred without any hesitation or favour," said local MLA, Sanjeeva Matandoor.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of natural disaster and loss due to rains held at the taluk panchayat hall on Friday.

Addressing the government officials for the first time after becoming MLA, he instructed officials of PWD, zilla panchayat engineering department, revenue department, Mescom and other departments to work with added zeal to provide relief to suffering people as they face added problems because of rainy season and natural calamities arising out of it.

Mescom official said that his department has suffered loss of Rs 1.29 crore this time due to uprooting of 1,316 electric poles in this subdivision and that 1,080 houses in this subdivision are still to get electricity connection. He said that a survey was conducted and wiring was laid to some of these houses. The MLA advised the department to immediately respond to complaints received over phone and also utilize social websites to make the department more efficient.

When Matandoor wanted to know why the office of the sub-registrar has not yet been shifted to the mini Vidhana Soudha here and why the issue is languishing for so long, the official said the department is yet to send letter of permission. The MLA sought a copy of the letter from the office here so that he can follow up the matter and see that the office is shifted at the earliest.

Subdivisional officer here, H K Krishnamurthy, tahsildar, Anantashankara, taluk panchayat president, Bhavani Chidanand, vice president, Rajeshwari, taluk panchayat executive officer, S Jagadish, municipal vice president, Vishwanath Gowda and others were present.
