Udupi: BJP defeats Congress candidate in Siddapur bypoll, retains ZP seat

Udupi, Jun 18: The BJP on Sunday June 17 retained the Siddapur zilla panchyat seat here after defeating the Congress in the bypoll.

BJP candidate Rohit Kumar Shetty defeated his nearest rival Prasanna Kumar Shetty by 3,281 votes. Rohith secured 11,926 votes followed by Prasanna with 8,566 votes. JD(S) candidate Arun Shetty got 276 votes.

The seat fell vacant following the sudden demise of BJP leader Taranath Shetty.

Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty congratulated Rohit Kumar following his victory.

The BJP supporters celebrated the win along with their candidate.
