Bengaluru: Don’t know what will happen after one year - Deve Gowda

Bengaluru, Jun 17 (DHNS): A day after Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy expressed doubts over the longevity of the JD(S)-Congress coalition government, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda on Saturday echoed similar views.

Speaking to reporters in Pavagada after taking part in the inauguration of a temple, Gowda said, "It is God's blessings that a national party that has won 78 seats has supported a party that won 38 seats. Kumaraswamy is pained that he did not get majority. He is suffering a lot because of this. God is testing him, despite giving him power. He has to struggle to pass this exam."

He said though Kumaraswamy had promised farm loan waiver and pension for senior citizens, he failed to get majority. "The coalition government will surely complete one year. I don't know what will happen thereafter. However, the Congress has asked Kumaraswamy to serve as chief minister for five years," he said.

The fissures in the government came to the fore on Saturday with senior JD(S) leader Basavaraj Horatti expressing apprehension that the Congress was armtwisting Kumaraswamy and not allowing him to function smoothly. As a result of this, the coalition government may not last long, he told reporters in Dharwad.

Horatti said Kumaraswamy was interested in overall development of the State but the Congress was applying brakes to his model of development.

“The Congress had proposed formation of a coalition government saying its support was unconditional. But, now the Congress is putting hurdles at every stage. Considering this, Kumaraswamy has restricted his tenure as chief minister for just one year" Horatti said.

"The leaders who demanded Lingayat religion have been snubbed by denying Cabinet berth", he said. Being a senior legislator he should not have been denied a berth in the Kumaraswamy Cabinet, he added.

Strange you don't know what will happen next. Same thing that happened to you in 1997 can happen to your son also. History can be repeated.

Watch his words carefully. Alignment with the BJP or Midterm elections for Karnataka Assembly or Migration from JD(S) to BJP operation Kamala cannot be ruled out. If Kumaraswamy wants a full five year term then he should allow the Congress to have 83% of Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka in favour of Congress and keep 17% for JD(S) ie., 24 for Congress and 4 for JD(S). Presently JD(S) has just 17% of the Assembly seats in its favour. This will ensure a smooth sailing for Kumaraswamy. In any case JD(S) has no roots in any other State of India other than Karnataka. So it is prudent Kumaraswamy reconciles to the Congress demand.

    Very correct and truthful statement.
It's for both parties to stick to common minimum programs agreed upon, be loyal to their own commitments to each other, to their voters and people of the state!
Each of them will be known to the people, not for what they say, but what they do!
They will create their own destiny!

This govt was formed before getting CMP now both have formed a committee to give report to see how CMP is laid down and implemented. This clearly shows it is the non working govt but a JV formed to loot the State.it is almost a month since taking oath and still no distribution of ministry and no one knows where to start.everybody is looking out how to make money

The person who takes support(JDS) also should understand his capacity to run Govt. The person who takes and gives support is one and the same.

So both the chors r together to loot the State and not to serve the ppl.what compulsion made this app maga to agree for the coilation ? Surely main reason is to fill the empty box of party and self.tnis clearly shows how low can anyone go to get power even at the cost of loss of self respect.when this app knows that they have no absolute majority why he should agree to lead and now say can't decide on waiver of loans to farmers?
Khangress said "unconditional support then why they bargain for particular portfolio? Or put conditions for presenting budget or taking any steps to improve the working of the Govt?
All nautanki and dombarata by both the parties

It's good in a way, that Congress-JDS formed the Govt this time. In one year, people will be fed up with the mess that they will create, and will vote for a stable Govt. under BJP.

Janata Janardhan (God) had not blessed you to rule. One year is enough to amass the wealth for generations and fight many more elections in future. That's why everyone is rushing to be a minister. Otherwise why your family should have all important portfolio ?
