Mangaluru: Air India flight diverted- angry passengers protest at Kochi runway

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 16: The Air India Express flight AIE 814 from Dubai which had arrived on Friday was diverted to Kochi in the light of inclement weather here. On this occasion, passengers bound for the city by this flight protested against what they termed as apathy of Air India, at the runway there.

The flight, which was to land here at 4.45 am, had instead flown to Kochi where it touched down at 5.55 am. The passengers had to keep waiting for alternative arrangements inside the aircraft till 11 am. The passengers bound for the city complained that they were not provided with any facility at Kochi.

Several of the passengers had planned to celebrate Eid with their families early morning on Friday and they were furious about missing the occasion. They also claimed that the Air India staff had promised to take the flight back to Mangaluru within an hour but there was inordinate delay. The passengers also complained that air-conditioning inside the fight had been switched off. They stated that the air-conditioning system which was switched off was switched on after protest was held.

It is gathered that because of poor visibility, the flight could not land at the airport here. At Kochi too the crew was awaiting the climate to clear off before the flight could take off. Although the climate improved thereafter, the flight could not be operated as the duty hours of crew members came to an end. Air India Express had to get a new team of crew from Thiruvananthapuram for taking the aircraft back to Mangaluru, sources explained.

However, it is learnt that the passengers were served food at the aircraft after they refused to come to the arrival hall to have food and refresh themselves. It is also said that the passengers were provided the facility to get seated inside four buses which were stationed near the aircraft. Air India sources denied having switched off air-conditioning system as alleged.

Let us us thank AIE for having daily direct flights to our homeland, instead of creeping about things which are out of control.
Crew members too work whole night and would like to rest as soon as they reach their destination. It is not intentional. Safety is far more important.

Air India is not at fault in this case. Nobody can control nature and all of us are at the mercy of nature. It is just ill luck that this happened on Eid day. Any other responsible airline would have done what Air India did. One can only sympathise with the passengers. The passengers had the audacity to protest only because it is and Indian airliner. They would not have done what they did had it been a foreign airliner.

I know you, the real fact of protesting is because of Air india express staff charged around 1000 Rupees per extra hand baggage kg just before boarding the flight despite high flight changes which is too high.
When passanger entered the flight, poor quality services greeted them.
Passengers and air India flight staff both should have to learn something.

For sure these passengers were out of their mind or they are uneducated persons. It seems they are not concerned about the safety, yeah maybe because easy to throw on the airline and the staffs.
Dear uneducated people just grow up think before you decide to do something which is not good for you and for others.

Safety is first priority and passengers will co operate for this.

But AI should not take passengers for granted and handle this situation in a best possible way.

Plan ahead and opt for more reliable flights by paying extra so you dont even miss any festivals. Remember we don't want another tragedy in Mangalore. What pay for budget airline you can't expect luxury. Alternatively go for Emirates. Is anyone protest in Emirates Airlines??
    Keep calm. It is Sunday.

Here is what happens : The APU ( Auxiliary Power Unit ) is a silent loow noise gas turbine engine hidden inside rear of flight its responsible for Air conditioning,Lightning & electricity when flight is grounded.
they switch off the APU when both main engine starts during take off. may be because APU couldn't be powered on untill 11am. they switch off ac during take off & switch on back

People have become too much impatient. If weather is not good and not safe for landing then of course flight will not take off until clearance . Let it be deepavali or EID or Christmas, people safety is more Important. Don’t do politics

If any untoward incident like May 22 happens, then what???
Missing a family celebration at the cost of passengers safety or simply showing resentment???
There are ways and means to criticize.
Air India customer service at times is pathetic but here in this case if weather conditions are not up to the mark to land the aircraft then whom to be blamed???

Nature's fury guys wake up from your narrow mindedness and high handedness.

In a civilised society there are ways & means to protest.

I sympathise your uneasiness there at Kochi airport.
In that case one should know before booking a ticket what is Air India's passenger/customer care is all about....
