Bengaluru: Minister Zameer Ahmed apologises for taking oath of secrecy in English

Bengaluru, Jun 10 (DHNS): Food and Civil Supplies Minister Zameer Ahmed on Saturday apologised to people of Karnataka for taking oath of secrecy in English during the swearing-in of new ministers held on June 6.

He was speaking to the reporters after seeking blessings of Siddaganga seer Shivakumara Swamiji here.

"I am extremely sorry for hurting the sentiments of Kannadigas. My parents admitted me to English medium school. Hence, I am not well versed in Kannada. I did not want to make mistake while taking the oath of office. So, I took it in English," he said.

Replying to a query on the reports about H D Deve Gowda not keen on having Zameer in Kumaraswamy's Cabinet, Zameer Ahmed said, "We are in coalition government. There is nothing wrong in taking the suggestions of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda. The JD(S) supremo and Chief Minister Kumaraswamy have not intervened in the allocation of tickets or ministerial berths in the Congress."

Chamarajpet MLA exuded confidence that the confusion surrounding Cabinet expansion would be resolved soon. "M B Patil is hurt for not getting ministership. He will hold talks with the party leadership. Patil himself has said that he would not quit the Congress,” Zameer Ahmed said.

"I am a newbie to minister's post. I need a few days to learn the trade. I will give my best to the portfolio/department assigned to me;' Zameer Ahmed said.

kannada is official language of karnataka. When you are staying in any state one must better learn official language of the state especially representatives(MLA,MP).
When You are elected by the locals and you do not know the language after staying for long time .what is the use of becoming MLA/MP. How you come to know the problems and communicate officially.
Simplly dont make stunt . These guys are unfit to become MLA. Shame on all these.
In karnataka many MLA's are outsiders. They just enjoy the office nothing else no humble on serving people.
    Jai Karnataka

According to Official Languages (Use for Official Purpose of the Union) Rules 1976, both English and Hindi are official languages of Union Government.
Out of the 29 indian states (included telangana) only 9 states have official language as Hindi. Which means out of 543 members in lok sabha, 209 members are from officially Hindi speaking regions and rest of the members may not be so comfortable or fluent with Hindi language like people from Hindi speaking states. Even now in most of the state schools Hindi is taught only as a 3rd important language after English(business language) and Regional language.

Any Mp, Mla or minister can take the oath in any language — as recognised by the 8th schedule of the constitution — he or she is comfortable with, to reach out to the constituency which voted him to the exalted seat.
I don't think so he need to tender an apology if he is oath of affirmation within the constitution.
    Jai Hind

You are the one who championed Sidhu's Kannada even to the extent of kicking out Hindi from Karnataka. You are needed more by SS & MNS who are bent upon kicking out all Hindi speakers.
