Churches in India conspiring with Vatican to destabilise govt: VHP

New Delhi, Jun 7 (PTI): Amidst veiled criticism of the Modi government by two archbishops, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) today accused churches in India of conspiring with the Vatican as "contract killers to destabilise elected governments" and prop up the "puppet" ones.

Weeks within his Delhi counterpart stirred up a debate, the Archbishop of Goa and Daman Father Filipe Neri Ferrao on Monday wrote a letter to churches saying that the Constitution is in danger and most people are living in insecurity.

Reacting sharply to these letters, VHP Joint General Secretary Surendra Jain said it is now amply clear that the "churches in India are in collusion with the Vatican and are trying to create an atmosphere of distrust against the present government."

"On the contrary, Constitution of India is in danger because of the attacking political stand of the church and its agenda of religious conversions," he alleged.

"This is not the church's view-point, but a conspiracy to install governments which can run on the directions of the Vatican. Like the award-wapsi gang, the church too is acting like a contract killer to destabilise the elected governments," Jain claimed - referring to a group of artists and academicians returning government awards in protest of perceived intolerance.

He further said the Vatican not only denigrates the Hindus all over the world but also India as a nation and the Indian churches are acting as puppets in their hands. "The same church remains a mute spectator when emergency was imposed in the country, Kashmiri Hindus were brutally killed in the valley and Sikhs were butchered in the 1984 riots. For the Church, these events do not put the Constitution in danger," Jain argued.

"Why does the church behave in this fashion only when BJP-led government is in office," he asked.

"A malicious campaign about attacks on churches was started by these people when Modi ji took over as Prime Minister. When their falsehood was exposed, they did not show the courtesy of apologising for the same," Jain added.

In a controversial letter addressed to all the churches in the national capital, the Archbishop of Delhi had last month said that there was a "turbulent political atmosphere" in the country which "threatens" democracy and secularism.

Archbishop Anil Couto, in his letter dated May 8, has also urged all the priests in Delhi to "pray for the country" ahead of the crucial 2019 Lok Sabha election, in which the BJP hopes to retain power.

"We are witnessing a turbulent political atmosphere which poses a threat to the democratic principles enshrined in our constitution and the secular fabric of our nation," Archbishop Couto had said in his letter.

The letter had triggered a sharp response from the ruling BJP.

Imagine the Vatican city with an area of around .44 sqkm and a population of around 1000 and without a formal army of its own and together with the Indian Catholics who constitute 1.5% of the total Indian population represents a threat to India with an area of around 3,287,240 sqkm and a population of 1.324 billion and an army of 1,443,921 active personnel.

Grow up jokers; at least consider the facts before making some hilarious statements.

What a stupid response from the VHP. People in India have realised the bogie of conversions raised against the Christians as utterly false and malitious as the christian population in India has declined over the years.

It is the deafening silence of the Prime Minister on the frequent attacks on Churches in India that has led to this growing insecurity amongst Christians In India.

Any dissent is viewed by this dispensation as anti national instead of addressing the causes. The Bishops have rightly expressed their concern at the growing intolerance against minorities in India by stroking such issues as Minority Appeasment.

The country and all its minorities lived in Peace and Harmony under a BJP dispensation earlier headed by a Statesman Respected Vajpaye Ji.

Firstly, all of us are Indians, our religions are later n that is secondary. When we were young, we did not even care what religion my friends belonged to, but we were great friends n we were allowed to move in public freely.
Freedom of speech, freedom to preach and practice one's Religion is a Birth Right of every single Indian. This is basic fact. If a Priest, a Bishop, Arch Bishop writes a letter to his own faithful community to be careful, to pray for better India, that we as Minority seem to have problems in our own Democratic Country - what is wrong in it.
Why are Catholics termed as Converting people, if we did, our ratio in our population would have increased. It has NOT INCREASED in numbers.

Vatican / Italy / Pope - leave them alone please. They are much higher than what one can even imagine.

Do not include Pope in your cheap politics. Let him live his life n guide n guard his own Flock. Pope n his administration has never n will not interfere in Indian administration. So you can not mention them without proper proof. Catholics have every right to express their anxiety and concern in this Democracy.
Catholics / Christians are peace loving and do not promote any communal imbalances. If Catholic leaders have advised their people to pray for our Country - India, how does it become hindrance to Ruling Govt. You are involved in these prayers, we are asked to pray for you, your leadership, your thoughts and your deeds. We are your own people, we are Indians for Heaven's sake. Treat us at par with others as Indians by right. They are NOT HATE SPEECHES. They are concerned matters. Please try n understand difference. You seem to jump into conclusions which suite you conveniently.
Concentrate on better life for our citizens rather than in these petty politics. Grow up in thoughts.

Churches have no other option to choose weapons like Prayer, Love, Patriotism, peace, charity, sacrifice, forgiveness, etc while you VHP may opt Force, Hate, Avenge, Fight, etc.

What Congress and other parties could not do in 60+ years - This party has done in four years. To our BJP friends, this is called intolerance. Irrespective of bad and good experienced during the previous regimes, we always felt we are the proud self respected citizens of India. I still remember my young days where our Hindu neighbours attended each other festivities, prayers - even community prayers together. Today we (all faiths) can not pray or mix and celebrate? Why.

There is an annual gathering at KUDUPU Temple. After fulfilling their vows, most of the devotees would walk to Kulshekar Church to pay respect to Ajjer (Tulu word for Grandpa)... that was FR. DUBOIS. This close were our communities. Various communities would visit Hindu Holy places like Dharmastala. Today - this has almost become extinct.

I think you are not staying in Bendoor in the recent times. Also, I believe that you are too much into social media.
You attend any wedding functions of Christians, you may see number of Hindus friends of bride and the groom attending.

Try visiting any of the houses of Muslims in Mangalore on Eid day, you will find in many places a Hindu will be having Biriyani there. I think all Muslims and Christians get sweets and a portion of crackers from their Hindu neighbors on Deepavali.
    Nothing to say about Christmas.

Can any of these accusers substantiate their claim as to what Vatican gains by destabilizing India? Vatican doesn't share our borders like Pakistan and China do, nor is Vatican our business rival. This is nothing but an attempt to nip Ruhul Gandhi's growing popularity in the bud on the pretext of his mother's Italian origin.

Of course the vanguards are Times Now & the infamous Cow Swamy of Republic. Archbishops are Indian citizens and revered leaders of the community as against the thugs of RSS/VHP/BD. The archbishops have all the rights to express their opinion and guide the flock under them. Who the hell are you RSS/VHP/BD (BJP) to object. Vatican do not involve in internal affairs of any country. However, VHP is committing atrocity against the minority which the entire world is condemning. The allegation against the Vatican is the loose tongue of VHP which is no surprise.

Vatican is not in the business of involving in internal affairs of any country, unless there is gross violation of human rights.

Loose talk from the VHP talking heads is very dangerous to the nation. However, it depends who is talking. It it is a barking dog trying to get some attention, we know how ignore it at it's level. I don't know whether it is worth commenting using my time.

Without reading the messages from the Bishops, accusing them is not acceptable. They have written the facts which are true and all the people of this country know. Just look back these 4 years and see where the humanism has reached. How many rapes have taken place and yet the law is not acted on the accused rather, the girls and women are continuously suffering.. Where is the law which says, anyone can kill anyone, with reason or not? How many of the people are killed mercilessly.

How many of our churches have been damaged, crosses are broken so on , yet accused are continuing doing so. Our democracy is in danger why because, our rights are not allowed . We Christians are for peace and love among all the people of this country and we do continue doing so. So stop attacking churches, crosses. Allow each and every one of this country to follow his or her religion and let the peace and harmony prevail as it was before.

Remember none of us are permanent on this earth. On the death bed only the good what we do will be carried nothing else. So my request to all the readers, stop attacking any religion or each other and let us live loving one another as brother and sisters. Have a beautiful day.

VHP must first curb Sanathan Sanstha, that killed many authors/journalists who voiced over atrocities against humans. Curb politicians who are hindering secular co-existence of all communities by asking India's Constitution to be changed.

Christians in India did nothing to hinder the peaceful execution of India's administration and the Pope has zero influence on Indian Government's functioning.

One thing must remember in this world about religion.
There are 2 religions in this era.
    1. Dharm - good thing
    2.Adharm - bad thing

if the communal people comes to know tthe meaning of 2 above words correctly I think no one will
blame other human being on the basis of religion.
It applies to all communal people irrespective of religion

Be conscious before commenting on other religion which may harm there religious sentiments.

    KP,

Dharmis don't try to malign their religion, they follow it and remain faithful to it.
Adharmis lose no chance to malign it and as a result the very faith they fallow, sustains.

So, which category you put me as applicable to the religion I follow ? Dharmi - surely ?
Which category the VHP should be listed into ? Please - may I know ?

As such, your warning should be given to, who ???
