Sep 14, 2008: The troubled neighbourhood of Our Lady of Miracles church, Milagres, in Hampankatta is slowly returning to normal, as more security police were deployed which dissuaded further attacks.  As reported earlier, Section 144 has been clamped in the city for the next three days.







In Udupi, Bajrang Dal activists attacked a prayer hall belonging to breakaway Christian sect ‘New Life’ prayer hall in Shiroor, Kundapur taluk. The miscreants also set ablaze a Maruti Omni car that was parked in the premises.

Meanwhile, a report from Karkala confirmed that four person belonging to New Life Fellowship were arrested by the police over alleged conversions.

The state Bajrang Dal coordinator, speaking to media persons, here said that some members of New Life Fellowship had distributed religious literatures in the past few days, which contained objectionable matter like ‘there is no existence of Hindu Gods and no one should not worship them’.

He claims that they have gathered at least 50 copies of such books. This act of New Life members caused the flare of attack on churches, prayer centres in Dakshina Kannada, he said.

Mangalore: Stone pelting incident - House Damaged

Stone pelting incident was reported from Derebail here at about 4.30 pm. A house was damaged in the incident.

Activists of Sangparivar and Catholic youths were pelted stones each other as situation turned violent in the area. A house belonging to Jonet Serrao was damaged in the incident.

Protest in Front of Kulshekar Church


A huge mob has gathered in front the Kulshekar Church in protest against the attack on Christian prayer centres.  A large number of people ,specially youth were  seen shouting  slogans against  the BJP government,  the District  administration minister Krishna Palemar, Home minister VV S Acharya and others.

Roads have been blocked , and hundreds of vehicles  are stranded

At 2.25pm, IST:  The Yahova's witness church near Taluk office has also been attacked by the miscreants. This is the fifth church which was vandalised by the miscreants in the district.

Meanwhile, the vehicular movement was completely blocked at Hampanakatta circle in protest of attack on churches in the city. In response to protesters demand, the shop keepers in the vicinity pulled down the shutters.

Following the incidents of the attack on churches, the district administration has imposed section 144 in the city. The police security has been provided to all the churches in the district.

Meanwhile, the entire transport in the city was disrupted due to road block at Hampanakatta and Milagrese area. The protesters also blocked the National Highway 17 at Thokkuttu Junction.

    Hundreds of Catholics have gathered  outside the  Bejai Church upon hearing the unusual ringing of  the church bells that went on for almost half hour.

It was earlier rumored that the Bejai church convent had  received  an anonymous  threatening phone call.  Daijiworld  met the Superior of St Angela's Convent ,  Rev Sr Mable who clarified saying that she had requested the police to give protection to the convent as it is located  close  to the main road and no threatening calls were received.

The police  were  seen near the church along with the assistant parish priest and some leaders of the church.

    Mangalore, Sep 14: In a shocking incident , miscreants attacked four prayer centers belonging to Christians in separate places in the undivided Dakshina Kannada district on Sunday September 14.

    The Adoration monastery near Milagres Church in the city, CSI Church near Kodical, Newlife Centre located in the Krista Kripa building in Udupi and the Newlife prayer centre have been severely damaged by  miscreants on Sunday. All the attacks took place  between 9 to 10 am making it obvious that it was a carefully planned  attack, executed by the Sangh Parivar activists. 

    The Adoration monastery near Milagres Church  where harmless Adoration Cloister nuns reside, was vandalized in the attack.  The Holy Sacrament, chairs and other furniture items have been damaged here.  A mob has gathered near the monastery and there is heightened  tension . 

  •  The CSI Church near Kodical has also been attacked and furniture badly damaged. Sources told that a group of 8 persons attacked the prayer centre at Madantyar when the devotees were participating in prayer. A certain Pascal has been injured in the attack. About 50 chairs, fans and other furniture items were also damaged in the attack. The miscreants came in a jeep carrying  wooden sticks, sources added.

    About 15 persons attacked the prayer centre in Udupi and the furniture items have been damaged there.  A few devotees have sustained  minor injuries in the attack

      Bajrang Dal or whatever Dal they are not supposed to attack religious centres, we catholics do not attack their temple. These people are worst than cancer, there is no treatment for this sickness? They should be hanged, that's the only cure.

      Catholics unite and eradicate this discease. These schedule caste people need catholic schools for education, please do not entertain them, let them remain what they are, slippers are meant to adorn the feet not the head.
