Hannover sign Stoke City's Wimmer on loan

Berlin, May 28 (IANS): German football club Hannover have signed defender Kevin Wimmer from English Premier League (EPL) outfit Stoke City, the Bundesliga club announced in an official statement.

The 26-year-old Austrian will strengthen Hannover's defence for the upcoming season after putting pen to paper on a season-long loan deal, reports Xinhua news agency.

"In addition to his athletic qualities, Kevin also convinced us with his character at our meeting in England. He loves football and wants to take responsibility at Hannover," head coach Andre Breitenreiter said.

The Austrian international knows the Bundesliga as he played three years for Cologne (2012-2015). After two years at Tottenham Hotspur he joined Stoke City to make 17 appearances.

"Those responsible have given me a very clear idea of what they intend to do with Hannover and what role I play in this process. That sounds very convincing. Hence I am happy that the transfer worked out," Wimmer told the club's official homepage.

The new arrival received the jersey no. 28. Hannover completed the Bundesliga season 2017-2018 on 13th place of the standings.
