Congress MLA Siddu Bhimappa Nyamgoud dies in road accident

Bengaluru, May 28: Siddu Bhimappa Nyamgoud, Congress MLA from Jamkhandi died in a road accident on Monday, May 28.

The accident took place near Tulasigeri when the Congress legislator was on his way to Bagalkot from Goa. The 70-year-old lawmaker was in New Delhi and had returned to Goa by flight before he proceeded to his constituency by car. Nyamagouda had suffered severe injuries and died instantly.

According to district superintendent of police Vamshikumar, the MLA's car tried to avoid a lorry and hit a road side parapet wall.

Siddu Bhimappa Nyamgoud won election from Jamkhandi Assembly seat, defeating BJP’s Kulkarni Shrikant Subrao by 2,795 votes in the recently held elections.

He is survived by wife, two sons and three daughters. Nyamagouda was the union minister in the P V Narasimha Rao Cabinet in 1990-91.

Karnataka Congress took to microblogging site Twitter to express grief on the sudden demise of the lawmaker. “Deepest condolences on the passing away of our senior leader and Jamkhandi MLA, Shri Siddu B Nyamagouda. The Congress party stands by his family in this hour of grief,” tweeted Karnataka Congress.

Congress had won 78 seats in Assembly elections. After Nyamgoud’s death, it has now left with 77 legislators.
