Bengaluru: I am indebted to Congress, not to people of state – H D Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, May 27 (DHNS): Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Sunday, May 27, said that he was "indebted" to the Congress, and not to the people of Karnataka. He made it clear that no decision would be taken by his coalition government, without consulting the grand old party.

In an appeal to the farmers of the state not to commit suicides, Kumaraswamy said that he would announce his decision on crop loan waiver within a week's time.

He spoke to reporters after garlanding former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's portrait on his 54th death anniversary, at Vidhana Soudha.

"I am not indebted to the six and a half crore people of the state. I am indebted to the Congress. I appeal to the farmers to give me one week's time. Nobody should commit suicide. In case I fail to waive crop loans, then I will resign as chief minister voluntarily. I don't want anybody pressuring me to resign from my post," he said.

The BJP has given a call for a state-wide bandh on Monday, as Kumaraswamy failed to announce the loan waiver within 24 hours of coming to power. The bandh call is being supported by some farmer organisations.

Attacking both BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa and the farmer organisations, Kumaraswamy said, "I don't want any farmer organisation exerting pressure on me. I know what such organisations have done during the elections. I will not hang on to the seat of power. Yeddyurappa should stop provoking farmers to commit suicides. He must be humane. What if some farmer commits suicide having listened to these provocative statements of politicians? What will become of the orphaned children of such farmers? Who will be responsible for them?"

Key portfolios

Conceding that the Congress was asking for the key Finance portfolio, Kumaraswamy said that there were no differences between the two parties.

"The Congress has asked for the Finance portfolio. Such demands are common during the expansion of the council of ministers. No decision has been arrived upon yet. But this doesn't mean that there are differences of opinion. There are no "fights over portfolios: the CM claimed.

Kumaraswamy, who is slated to travel to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, termed it a courtesy call.

Shiva Rajkumar's visit

Earlier in the day, Sandalwood actor Shiva Rajkumar and his wife Geetha paid a visit to Kumaraswamy at his residence.

Speaking to reporters later, the actor said that he had visited Kumaraswamy to congratulate him on becoming the chief minister.

"I hadn't met him after he became the chief minister. I came to congratulate him. Kumaraswamy and I go way back, given our industry connections. I have known him from his days as a film producer. He has his own vision for the development of Karnataka. I wish him the best in realising all his dreams and aspirations: he added.

Kumar Swamy do good to the farmers if congress allow him to do. But congress will never allow him to do good to the farmers, Congress will never allow any body to shine except Rahul Gandhi.
Congress has great leaders like Veerappa Moily, Siddaramayya, Karge, Oscor Frenandees, list will go on.
but congress use them as soldiers to protect a weak king. and weak king is mr. Rahul.

    Jenifer,

Jennifer, don't worry, he will wipe out congress from Karnataka, is a intelligent guy like his father.
Congress made mistake by joining hands with him and congress will pay for that in the days to come. Rahul Gandhi flies to foreign for making strategy i mean international strategy to solve local problem of Karnataka. He is gone coz he is tired pronouncing vishweshwarayya and Basavanna. May be taking a massage there.

Typically, politicians select Babus they like on important positions. Babus do not care for people, and they are administrators. Looks like HDK seems to think the same way; he is a babu appointed by Congress. And this is democracy at its best...
Neither the Congress nor JDS care for people. Not surprising from Congress, but what about the father whose decision matters in most cases. What is his take on farmers' woes? Why does not HDK consult his father about farmers' suicide?

Here is the take of famous Gangavathi Pranesh, I think it is worth quoting:
    1. We can live without Ciggarattes &other Nicotine products, but we continue to finance its producers who are multi-millionaires.
    2. We can live without liquor and beer, but we continue to finance (state also benefits enormously from it), its manufacturers who are multi-billionaires as a result.
    3. We CANNOT live without staple food like rice, and wheat, or for that matter, dal and other diet, but farmers who grow them are not only poor, are in debt and committing suicide.

Our society has got it wrong somewhere and something is seriously wrong. World-over Agriculture is subsidized and there is an implicit recognition that they cannot survive without it. Subsidy on Agri was removed when India was brought to its knees by IMF. Eminent personalities (Dr. Sharad Joshi etc.) have even shown mathematically, how one can never make profit using Agriculture. Farmer Suicide needs a holistic solution one that de-couples rain from Agri cycle, cost of seeding, and post-harvest management all the way till they reach market.

And no, HDK or Congress are not solution to this conundrum even though 65% of our economy is still Agriculture based.

Excuse me Bangalore/Mangalore express, when you say" Neither the Congress nor JDS care for people" are you trying to say the great BJP is caring for people? I think no farmer committed suicide in the last 4 years of Feku's government. Dollor is about 18 rupees, I guess, oh I forgot that you may not know that because in Bangalore you trade with rupees only. BTW, how much petrol costs in Bangalore??

Whatever might be your tactics to win the elections, after you assume the resposibility of the state, you must be the chief minister of all the people of Karnataka. You should be accountable to people and not any party supporting you.
