Mangaluru, May 27: CSI district area chairman Fr Prabhu Raj inaugurated the centenary celebrations of Protestant Christian Co-operative Society here at St Sebastian Church hall, Bendore, on Sunday, May 27.

Addressing the gathering, Fr Prabhu Raj said, "This is a great occasion for Protestant Christian Co - operative Society as it has reached the milestone of 100 years. Earlier, this society was formed to eradicate economic crisis and today it has grown and completed 100 years. This co-operative society provides home loans, vehicle loans, and jewellery loans and even lends for the purpose of education and health. We need to remember the service and the contribution of past workers and directors. May this co-operative society grow and more of their branches should come up.”

Former MLA J R Lobo launched the centenary logo. He said, “Hundred years ago, this co-operative society was for formed for the benefit of protestant community. We need to remember the sacrifices made by previous directors in making this co-operative society grow. We are today witnessing its growth which is mainly due to the contribution made by members of the co-operative society. This Protestant Christian Co-operative Society, despite reaching the milestone of 100 years, has no branches. Why it so? We need to review and strive hard to make this co-operative society develop so that there would be more than 25 branches,”

Vice president of SCDCC Bank Vinay Kumar Soorinje released the souvenir. He said, “It has been a privilege to be part of this centenary celebration. Without the support of members, it is not possible for any co-operative society to grow bigger. If more branches come up, there will be job opportunities and more families will get help,”

Deputy registrar of co-operative societies B K Saleem released the centenary cash certificate.

B K Saleem said, "This is a great achievement of completing 100 years. This is the time to plan better future growth. It is possible only when we support each other and join hands for the growth,”

John Embrasses, Sydney S Salins, Godwin Peter, Daisy, Sophia Salins, Martin, Pradeep Achar, Suresh Kumar, Sampath Kumar Shetty, John Chandran, Uday Alva and others were felicitated on the occasion.

President of Protestant Christian Co-operative Society Immanuel E Pramodan welcomed the gathering, vice-president W N Gojar read out the annual report.
John Rohan compered the programme and P S Shantha Kumar rendered the vote of thanks.
