Mysuru: 29 contestants in fray for three Legislative council positions

Mysuru: In the forthcoming Karnataka legislative council elections from the three constituencies of Southwest graduate constituency, southwest teachers' constituency and South teachers' constituency in total 29 candidates are in the fray. 12 candidates from southwest teachers' constituency, eight candidates from southwest graduates' constituency and nine contestants from south teachers' constituency are in the final race. Two candidates have withdrawn their nomination on Friday, May 24, which was the last day to withdraw the nominations.

S P Dinesh (Congress), Ayanur Manjunath (BJP), Arun Kumar (JDS), G C Patel (Sarva Janatha Party) and independent contestants like Zafrullah Sattar Khan, B K Manjunathan, Prabhuling and G M Jaikumar are contesting from the southwest graduates' constituency.

Devaraj H N from Shanivarasanthe of Kodagu district, who had submitted his nomination as an independent candidate, withdrew his nomination from the southwest teachers' constituency on Friday. So now the contestants in the fray from this constituency are Capt Ganesh Karnik, who is the sitting MLC of this constituency, S L Bhoje Gowda (JDS), K K Manjunath Kumar (Congress), Dr Arun Hosakoppa (Independent), Aloysius D'Souza (independent), K B Chandroji Rao (independent), D K Tulasappa (independent), Amparu Nithyanand Shetty (independent), B R Prabhulinga (independent), K C Basavarajappa (independent), M Ramesh (independent) and Rajendra Kumar K P (independent).

Leena Shruti, who had submitted her nomination from south teachers' constituency withdrew her candidature. So the final contestants from this constituency are M Laxman (Congress), B Niranjan Murthy (BJP), Maritibbegowda (JDS), Tulasappa Dasara (independent), Dr Prasanna (independent), N M Ravishankar (independent), Dr Mahadev (independent), A H Gopalkrishna (independent) and Sharat Raj (independent).

Voting for all the three constituencies will be held on June 8 and the counting of votes  and result will be announced on June 12 as per the information given by the election officer P Hemalatha, regional commissioner, Mysuru.
