Mysuru: Unemployed software engineer kills wife, daughter - attempts suicide

Daijiworld Media Network - Mysuru (SP)

Mysuru, May 26: A software engineer, whose company had declared lockout, was frustrated to no end at the fact that he has been forced to manage the family expenses out of meagre pension drawn by his father. Unable to bear the agony, he killed his wife and daughter by slicing their throats. He also tried to kill himself but survived. This incident happened on Wednesday May 23.

R Prajwal (42), son of M Ramachandra, residing near Basavanahalli Circle in Vijayanagara fourth stage, was the person who killed wife, Savitha (39), and daughter, Sinchana (11).

Prajwal had married Savitha 12 years ago. Both were working as software engineers for a private company in the past. As the company closed its operations, they lost their jobs and settled in the city. Since a year, both of them were hunting for jobs but failed to get any. Prajwal's father, Ramachandra, who happens to be a retired employee of Bharat Earth Movers Ltd, was managing the family expenses of his son out of the pension he gets. Prajwal was always bothered by the bleak future he and his family were facing.

May 24 happened to be the marriage anniversary of the couple. Prajwal talked to his wife on May 23 night and proposed suicide of the entire family on the anniversary as the best possible solution to the nagging problem, but his wife rejected the idea. Therefore, on Wednesday, at around 1.30 pm, when Savitha was asleep, he went to her room, and sliced her throat. He then brought home his daughter, Sinchana, who had gone to her maternal grandmother's house, and sliced her throat too, police personnel stated.

He later consumed liquor and spent the whole night thinking about what he did. Late night on May 24, he consumed poison mixed with liquor and inflicted injuries to his hand and throat in an attempt to kill himself. Sometime thereafter, he began vomiting uncontrollably. Unable to bear the pain, at 1.20 am on Friday, he informed his father over phone about what he had done. His father rushed to the house of his son, and admitted him into a private hospital, the police, who registered a case, stated.

RIP to the deceased. Innocent lives were sacrificed due to bleak future. Every person, irrespective of which part of the world one lives, can go through similar situation. But out side India, there are lots of helpline to get help in such situation. If depression is treated on a timely manner, you can overcome any bad situation. I have gone through such situation when I moved from India to Canada. Even with very good educational background and experience with multi-national companies, I was without job for several months. I solved the problem by taking the job of fresh graduate and rapidly climbed up in position, and now many local Canadian are reporting to me. For every problem, there is a solution. The Christina institutions that I got educated had provided me lot of life's lessons on how to cope up during adversities, and may be that helped me to overcome my situation. We were taught that when one door shuts a dozen windows opens, but it is up to us individual how we look at it and go about it. I bow my head in respect to SAC, my Alma Mater in this respect.

Current job situation in India especially after demonetization and haphazard way of implementing GST, has created a huge void in employment area, especially in small and medium business houses. Government at the center and at State level have huge responsibility to find ways to solve this situation to avoid such recurrence.

If Indian economy heads in the same way soon well to do unemployed educated people will soon end up like farmers in distrust.

When Prime Minister Modi , BJP's Union Minister, Chief Ministers and Rajya Sabha members advising youth to take up 'Pakora' job pushing cart in the evening or breed milking cows is the last remaining option while 'wilful defaulters' enjoying the new found country looting Indian banks.

The proposed Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill, 2017 has raised concerns among commoners. If this bill is passed it may take away all your money in bank.

According to the Bill, a failing bank may be allowed to use depositors' money to stay afloat. What this means is that the bank can reduce its liability of paying its depositors, that is you, by either locking your money for a longer time or asking you to take a hit on your deposits.

This suicide is distress call for every citizens of India about the financial health of the nation. If those who prefer continue to vote BJP is warning.

My deepest condolence to the family members of loved ones. RIP
    Jai Hind

Prem, Moodbidri : why you want to involve politics here. If some person not feeling well also you people will say Modi is responsible for that. I am not sure whether you are an IT professional. The IT industry is like that only. no one knows when the BOSSES will ask employees to move out. The recession is there since a long long time for which modi is not responsible. When UPA was there in 2007 the year which recession was at peak. But no one will point out to UPA for 2007 recession. as we know the condition of US market. I am a software professional. So wrote this. Atlease in future don't involve politics for each and everything.

When Graduates are asked to sell Pakoras , is the Government bothered about the unemployment rising in Cities & Villages where Agriculture has become a curse.

The incident happened in Karnataka and karnataka was ruled by congress gov since several years. So do you mean state gov has no role in providing jobs? state gov has no role to provide security to citizens? If there is no role of cong gov in karnataka then why the hell did they do in these several years. There is state budget for employment, education, agriculture etc. where are these money going. There is weird trend going on in the country blame modi for everything...rediculous

@Ravindra karkala ,it is easy to blame govt.for not providing employments.True,But when jobs are there, applying must be done anyway form candidate. Here I find, instead of killing his family,he could have searched a job even a lesser payment to feed family. Not immediateyly he wouldnt get a IT engineer ,but a small job too can be taken up.He should realize his responsibility. It is not only he who lost job.Big IT firms are shifting to other cities has one reason.is because of taxes to save, and their benefits.who thinks at that time about employees? Here too many IT s are doing same. They remain for few years as per rules of lower taxes and look another place.we are fools.May these souls find rest in peace.sad.

Very sad case and today there are many youths who only want to be software engg, thinking it pays and reaps high yields. But none see that after math effects that could take place if terminated from employment. Specially while joining at private firms once has to be very careful as none knows when it would be closed. With education being a business every individual thinks to have a better life and give a good life to thier parents too. But with the situationa at demand, today our youths have been exploited by these firms. Just wondering what would happen to the up coming generation and will they be able to lead a good life ??

No one needs people who are just dragging time sitting in front of PC
Thus software Industry has become Hire and Fire
Solution : Develop skills when employed give the best of your abilities and then people will need you .If you lost the job just do some thing sitting in home .May be you do some Data mining,Data analysis job for some companies keep searching for opportunities you will get chance

Situation management is very essential and suicide is not a remedy. I am sure there are jobs, may be below their qualification, which can be taken up. For certain situation we should be ready do that and then come out of it. Sitting idle and then going panic is not a solution at all. May be counselling would have helped the family.

I also urge the software companies not to throw out employees according to their wish. They should support terminated employee for certain period, at least for 6 months. They should factor this cost when they hire them. These days human resource is considered as goods in companies. When they do not need they will just throw them out.

Politicians are not solely responsible for creating jobs. People should create the jobs with innovative ideas. For example, if Narayana Murthy was also looking for the job, we would not have Infosys today (which employs thousands of employment directly and indirectly).

Central Government is providing money to make business under MUDRA Yojana. Few of my friends already benefitted from this and their business gives them profit to lead respectable life.

There are lots of jobs. If I have enough workers, I would not cultivated there rather being pardeshi kaamwaala in Singapore. But, people now a days want only white collar job. Hence, I am considering to come back to India and start my own under MUDRA scheme.

Politicians irrespective of which party they belong are the main reason for this situation in our country. They spend crores of unaccounted money for the election. They have so much that they distribute cash in some areas... Their wealth from bribery is unlimited. And here common people are suffering. Yet these politicians succeed in fooling general public by creating fear about other religions or doing big PR campaigns about some developments they did (with the remaining money after Curruption)). Politics has become lucrative profession in India...
