Harvey Weinstein to surrender in NY on rape charge

New York, May 25 (IANS): Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is expected to surrender to the police in Manhattan on Friday on charges that he raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex on him, according to law enforcement officials.

The New York Times reported that the charges follow multiple accusations against him that led women around the world to come forward with accounts of being sexually harassed and assaulted by powerful men, leading to the #MeToo movement.

Ahead of his arrest, Weinstein is more concerned about his family than himself.

"Harvey will abide by standard legal protocol and in the meantime, he is staying true to his self-improvement recovery journey and relying on friends and family and his inner strength," a source told people.com.

"He still has his sense of humour and is more concerned about everyone else before himself, especially his family," the source added.

Investigators in Manhattan are preparing to place the mogul, 66, under arrest on Friday following a lengthy investigation into the allegations.

According to variety.com, the Manhattan District Attorney's office is expected to charge Weinstein with at least one case. The New York Times and the New York Daily News reported the case would involve allegations that he forced Lucia Evans to perform oral sex during an audition in 2004.

As per sources, a grand jury was convened weeks ago to hear the evidence against Weinstein, reports people.com.

Weinstein is known for producing movies like "Shakespeare In Love", "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "Shall We Dance?" and "Lion".
