Bengaluru: JD(S) not keen on joining hands with Congress in upcoming elections?

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru (DC)

Bengaluru, May 22: Though the Congress and the JD(S) have joined hands to form the next government following fractured verdict in Karnataka, the JD(S) seems to be not interested to continue the alliance in other upcoming elections.

Earlier after joining hands with the Congress, the JD(S) suffered setback and eventually broke with several leaders switching sides and it is the only reason to limit the alliance only to form government in the state this time.

One faction in the JD(S) opine that since the party is yet to recover from past alliances it is better not to consider alliance in the upcoming elections. They have brought the matter to the notice of JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda too. However, they have left the final decision to be taken by their high command.

JD(S) & Congress chiefs - Kumaraswamy and Parameshwara

It may be recalled that in 2004, Karnataka witnessed hung assembly. The secular parties Congress and the JD(S) joined hands despite BJP emerging single largest party. But the alliance lasted only for 20 months and H D Kumaraswamy claimed that the Congress was trying to divide his party. He later made an alliance with the BJP and formed the government. But the same decision led to the fall of JD(S) with several leaders like Siddaramaiah who was the deputy chief minister in the coalition government joining Congress. JD(S) could not recover from the setback even in 2008 and 2013 elections. Recently 7 rebel JD(S) leaders joined the Congress leaving the party completely limited to Deve Gowda and his sons. Even today the JD(S) is strong only in the Old Mysuru region.

The Congress reportedly is not in favour of JD(S) considering B M Farooq to a ministerial post as well as electing him to Vidhana Parishad. The Congress has demanded its lone MLA from Dakshina Kannada U T Khader to be given the ministerial post as well as appoint him as the district-in-charge minister.

The JD(S) leaders believe that if they continue to join hands with the Congress, the party might suffer miserably. The sources close to Kumaraswamy say that he too opines that the future alliance with the Congress might affect the party and has not accepted all the demands in forming new ministry ahead of creation of new government.

Elections for Jayanagar and Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituencies are yet to be held.

Its Congress that came running and fell at the feet of Deve Gowda. He laid the conditions and Congress agreed . Have you seen anywhere a CM from a party that had the lowest number of seats.? The JDS has milked it to their advantage. Subsequently ferrying the MLA to various resorts like a tour operator too dented the image of the Grand old party. In fact, if Cong had preferrred to stay out , they would have earned the respect of the people and even posed as a strong opposition to BJP. But not anymore. Itsa very bad move.

Although, wasn’t it common knowledge that a pre-poll Congress-JD(S) alliance can defeat the BJP in Karnataka? An alliance similar to the one Nitish and Lalu forged in 2015 in Bihar.
In Gorakhpur and Phulpur, the alliance of Akhilesh and Mayawati proved that if the opposition parties unite against the BJP, then the saffron party can be beaten even in its own bastion.

But, Congress’ ‘ego’ cost them Karnataka, just like it cost them Bihar and UP.

Granted, if they’d entered a pre-poll alliance they would have had to give certain seats to JD(S) and come up with a formula for the distribution of cabinet posts. But at least they wouldn’t have had to give up the chief minister’s post.

But no, they stuck with, “We are Congress. We will stay empty-handed if it satisfies our ego!”

If the Congress party doesn’t give up this attitude, then they may suffer the same fate in every Assembly election where regional parties play a key role.

It’s not wise to wait till your house is on fire to start digging a well — especially, for those who pride themselves on being a 130-year-old party and claim to be the largest party in the country.

..Joining hand is suicidal for Congress, rather they would have sit out ..there would have been big drama if BJP managed just 112..even if BJP/JDS combine would have problem..now Congress gone into distruction mode..JDS will enter DK, do Congress sacrifice any of the seat to JDS in DK!.. JDS nothing to loose but will make Congress looser..BJP will get stronger sighting betrayal of mandate..

Karnataka is not the same as 2008. The nation have understood the empty promises of BJP. No Prime Minister in the history has spent 15 days straight campaigning for party living office increase his speeches from earlier planned 15 to 21. Still they have fell short of majority despite money, muscle and administrative powers.

Despite all efforts BJP failed to mustered numbers for simple majority. You Bhaktha call is 'Betrayal' of mandate? Is selling and buying people mandate is 'holy' for BJP?

Forging alliance to form Govt has prevented massive corruption of Rs. 100/- crore per MLA to defect.
Democracy would have been in turmoil
Defection of MLA's shouldn't be allowed to curb corruption.
Rules should be enacted for MLA's to remain loyal to the party till next election or else they should be disqualified.

Still, I dont get this ,why the Cong is so elated , delirious and exited . Vijoytsavas celebrated. Firstly Cong did not win Ktaka. Nor was their performance upto mark. Despite all the claim that Cong is strong in Ktaka. They were worse than before from 140 they reduced to 78. Many of their ministers lost heavily . DK was a humiliating trashing that left people stunned for 2-3 days. Only one managed due to religious factors . Above all the CM lost his home constituency by a very large margin and just managed to win one more by only 1k votes. Alliance with someone with lesser number of seats was another suicide, trying to keep the BJP at bay. This will be felt in the long run. If you have noticed , Mayawati, Mamatha are giving more importance to HDK in their messages and speeches. No significance is given to Cong. The message they send is very clear Congress or 'Gandhis' will only be a small player if a coalition is formed to counter BJP in 2019.
