Man beaten to death over suspected cow slaughter in MP; 4 arrested

Bhopal, May 20 (Deccan Chronicle): Tension has gripped Madhya Pradesh’s Satna district after a man was allegedly beaten to death by villagers on suspicion of cattle slaughter.

The incident took place late on Wednesday night when villagers, armed with sticks and stones, allegedly attacked a group of men while accusing them of slaughtering a cow.

Riaz, 45, died on the spot while his friend Shakeel, 33, was seriously injured in the assault. The others in the group reportedly fled the spot.

Following the incident, security has been stepped up in the area. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Satna on Sunday as part of his two-day visit to the state.

The police have arrested four people and filed cases of attempt to murder against them.

During the investigation, police found a slaughtered bull and meat of two other bulls packed in sacks from the spot.

The four accused have been identified as Pawan Singh Gond, Vijay Singh Gond, Phool Singh Gond and Narayan Singh Gond.

A case has also been filed against Shakeel - who is in coma in a hospital in Jabalpur - for cow slaughter. However, the families of Shakeel and Riaz have denied cow slaughter charges, say reports.

Arif Aqueel, the lone Muslim MLA in the 230 member strong Madhya Pradesh state assembly, has decided to file a public interest litigation, seeking court directives to the MP government to perform last rites of cows following their death.

Aqueel had earlier tabled a private member’s bill in the state assembly stating that the MP government should arrange for disposal of cows’ bodies in a befitting manner.

But the bill was rejected by the House as the ruling BJP opposed it and when put to vote it fell through by a margin of 55 to 31 votes. Aqueel is the lone Muslim MLA in the 230 member MP Assembly.

“I have decided to file a PIL seeking last rites of cows that die natural deaths, to be performed by the state government. We respect the feelings of our Hindu brothers. They consider cow as their mother, therefore its sacredness should be maintained even after its death,” said Aqueel, a Congress MLA from Bhopal North.

Cow is not going to be 'Maata' if the petition is filed to respect by a Muslim. If Muslim reared cow for milk then it is objectionable.
Since 2010—the start-point of our database—28 persons were killed in bovine-related hate crimes across India, with the highest death toll in Bengal, as IndiaSpend reported on September 1, 2017. At least 223 people were injured in these 76 attacks, including 16 women—five of whom were sexually assaulted.
Muslims were the target of 54% (41 of 76) incidents of violence centred on bovine issues in 2010-17 and comprised 86% (24 of 28) killed in 76 incidents, data show.

This is the reality of the BJP ruled Madhya Pradesh and PM Modi's India

Shakeel will be in jail for 5 years for slaughtering (not sure) cow and the murderers will be rewarded by sangh parivar and will be given tickets in next election. Court will free the murderers arguing no strong evidence. Jai hind.
