Kasargod: 26 junior health inspectors relieved from service

Daijiworld Media Network - Kasargod (SP)

Kasargod, May 20: The services of 26 junior health inspectors, who were serving in 11 panchayats located in endosulfan affected areas of the district, have been removed from their posts en masse. They had been appointed eight years back as part of the endosulfan package to visit houses of victims of endosulfan use and extend necessary help under government scheme.

These health inspectors were appointed under National Health Mission when V S Achuthanandan was the chief minister of Kerala, on temporary basis. Their appointment had been made as per the ranking list prepared by Public Service Commission. The United Front government which succeeded, had extended their services by five years. A year back, their services were lent to Social Suraksha Mission under National Health Mission citing shortage of funds. The junior health inspectors, who had played a stellar role in helping the department to carry out relief measures for endosulfan victims, have now been left high and dry.

The employees who have lost their jobs, have taken up the issue with the legislator, MP, and ministers.
