Bengaluru: Kumaraswamy to take oath as chief minister on May 23

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, May 20: State president of JD(S), H D Kumaraswamy, late on Saturday May 19 said that he would be taking oath as the new Karnataka chief minister on Wednesday May 23. Earlier in the evening, he had said that he would take charge in ceremony being held at Kanteerava Stadium here on Monday May 21.

Although all preparations have been in place for the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders realized that national president of Congress party, Rahul Gandhi, and other top rung Congress leaders of national stature will not be able to take part in it on account of the death anniversary of former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. After discussions, Kumaraswamy reportedly agreed to postpone the ceremony to Wednesday, sources stated.

On Wednesday, only Dr G Parameshwar is expected to be sworn in as deputy chief minister, in addition to the chief minister. No other ministers will be sworn in. After the swearing-in, Kumaraswamy will fix date for trust vote. After passing of the confidence motion, other members of the ministry will take oath, as per information. As these processes might take a few days, the legislators nested in hotels have been asked against moving out till then, sources added.

Siddaramaiah will be the president of the coordinating committee of the new government. All important decisions of the new government need to be passed in this committee beforehand. The new government is expected to have Congress and JD(S) ministers in the ratio of 4:3.

If they want to form a ethical government and has guts let them have a floor test through secret voting. Is it ethical to have MLA's as hostages and herd them from hotel to hotel. Are we heading towards countries like Yemen & Iraq?

How many days this chow-chow govt of jds-cong will exist, only time will tell.jds and congress are keeping thier mla's in resorts even now. They dont have confidence in thier own mla's loyalty to thier parties.BJP's MLA's are freely moving even before the govt formation by BSY and even now.

What jds-cong will do once thier govt is formed? Will they still keep thier mla's in resorts for another 5 years? As both jds-cong claim that that thier mla's are being wooed by BJP .If so then are thier mla's not vulnerable to poaching therafter(as jds-cong claims thier mla's are wooed by BJP)?.

If congress-jds claims thier mla's are vulnerable to poaching from BJP before govt formation then by that logic, they may be vulnerable to BJP even after govt formation.BJP can play the game even after govt formation by that logic of jds and congress.
As per my prediction this chow chow govt will not survive for even 6 months.
    Lets hope the best.

Ideally RG should not have teamed up with JDS as their 2nd fiddle. The move by Cong to support a party with 37 seats unconditionally with JDS making all the decessions has sent the message very clear that it has now been reduced to a small time party hanging on for survival. The Cong will be now just another party joining other bigger parties as the 'Federal Front' to fight BJP in 2019. Its not a good thing for Congress as they will soon lose their relevance country wide.

JDS will loot the state blind they have now got full license. Congress will pay the price in the next election. In their desperation they have chosen short term gains over long term. Bad for everyone except JDS BJP.

It was fun watching the spinners from the BJP trying their best to justify the governor's silly and unconstitutional decision to call upon Yeddy first to take oath without numbers and then provide him 15 days to buy the legislators. The Supreme court quashed all these evil intentions and saved democracy from being murdered by the BJP.
In Meghalaya they justify mid wifeing the government with just 2 seats and bringing a unholy alliance of several parties when Congress was the single largest party. In Manipur and Goa too they did the same thing. Yet in Karnataka the governor rejects the claim of just two parties who jointly have a majority. Poor Yeddy then cries that the Congress has kidnapped its own legislators and prevented him from buying their conscience votes by paying each person 100 crores.
It really makes one wonder that there is no single leader in the BJP with a conscience who can stand up and say, what we did was wrong and unconstitutional. That is the saddest part. NOT EVEN ONE SINGLE PERSON WITH A CONSCIENCE TO SAY, WE WERE WRONG. If you justify the governor's decision of inviting the single largest party, then question the BJP for not applying the same principle in Goa, Manipur and Meghalaya.

Congress has already lost self respect by surrendering CM post to a party who won less than half seats .
They are playing it very cautious not to piss off Kumaraswamy with any demands . If this is the way it has to go, God forbid, soon the alliance may break up and we may see 2 election at the same time in 2019.

Sensible decision......by getting 16% of the seats?

Are you honestly that naive to pretend that there is nothing wrong with Kumarswamy becoming the CM? The next CM of Karnataka merely has 16% of the seats in the assembly and his MLAs are concentrated only in the Mysore-Hassan-Bangalore belt and no where else.

A party who have MLAs in only three districts and more importantly lost deposits in over 100 constituency, i.e. 45% and still goes on to form the Government????

This is not horse trading.... but trading the whole stable.... Congress style.
