Doha: Metabo puts up daunting score at floodlit cricket tourney

Doha, May 19: Metabo, the sponsoring team defeated Lovely Littles by a mammoth 84 runs at the inaugural match at the 24th Gulf Incon – Metabo Floodlit Cricket Tournament 2018 held at the Old Ideal Indian School Floodlit Grounds.

On winning the toss, Metabo captain, Shabbir elected to bat. In the dusty and rainy weather, Metabo played cautiously, but lost its first wicket in the first over of ten runs. They scored 29 runs for the loss of one wicket in the allotted three power play overs. Due to rain which interrupted the game for a brief while in the eighth over, the match was reduced to ten overs. On resuming, Metabo batsmen hit some lusty and powerful shots ending in 155 runs with the loss of two wickets in the reduced ten overs. Jaber was the star batsman who scored 33 runs in eight balls with four sixes and two fours and Bobav scored 34 runs in eight balls with four sixes and two fours while Hassan scored 21 in 12 balls with one six and two fours.



In reply, Lovely Littles began with a bang scoring 13 runs in the first over, but could not maintain the momentum and began losing wickets at regular intervals managing 71 runs for a loss of ten wickets in the allotted ten overs. The two batsmen Shamish (19 runs with one six and two boundaries) and Rajesh (14 runs with a six and a boundary) reached double figures while all the other batsmen were out in single digit scores.

For Metabo, Asif and Arsalan took three wickets each and Shabbir chipped in by knocking out two wickets.

For his all-round performance, Jaber of Metabo was chosen Man of the Match.

Earlier, Sajjad, senior sales and marketing manager of Metabo inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Qatar veterans cricket officials, all the players and match officials.

In the other match, Serandib B defeated Ceylon Warriors by three wickets.

Ceylon Warriors with a score of 131 runs were all out in 11.3 overs (Buddika 37 runs in 14 balls with four sixes and two fours, Bhaskar 29 runs in 15 balls with three sixes and one four, Manju 24 runs in 13 balls with three sixes and one four, Chamara three wickets in 17 runs, Akalanka two wickets for 22 runs) lost to Serandib B who scored 132 runs for eight wickets in 11.2 overs (Akalanka 29 runs in nine balls with three sixes and two fours, Priyantha 21 runs in 12 balls with four fours, Thilip with two wickets for 17 runs and Sanjaya with two wickets for 29 runs).

Akalanka of Serandib B was declared Man of the Match.
