Thiruvananthapuram, May 18: Kerala high court has ruled that using cellphone when driving car is not a punishable offence.
It noted that there is no suitable legal provision that terms use of cellphones during driving of vehicles is dangerous and detrimental to public safety.
The state police had filed case against a person named Santosh for using cellphone when driving his car at high speed. The high court which considered the petition filed by Santosh noted that cases against people using mobile phones when driving vehicles cannt be filed as there is no law under which this act can be treated as crime.
