Moodbidri, May 18: A Maruti 800 car and a Maruti Swift car collided head-on with each other near Mangalore Institute of Technology and Engineering at Mijar near here on the evening of Thursday May 17. One of the drivers, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, breathed his last when being taken to hospital.

Shivanand Shetty (65) from Mooduperara village, who was driving the Maruti 800 car, became the victim of this accident. The Swift car was being driven by Lokesh, an artiste from Sampige in the town. When Lokesh was driving his car from the town towards Mangaluru, wheels of his car had entered into a roadside pit. When he was attempting to force the car out of the pit, it hit the car driven by Shivanand Shetty, which was moving towards the town from the direction of Mangaluru.

Shivanand Shetty, who suffered serious injuries in the accident, was being taken to a private hospital here, when he breathed his last.

Policemen of the town station here have registered a case against Lokesh. They have taken up investigation.
