Mangaluru: Petrol and diesel prices moving skyward - consumers worried

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, May 18: After the assembly election process was completed in the state, diesel and petrol prices have been going up everyday, giving jitters to the average consumers who are worried over the phenomenon. There are rumours that prices of petroleum products might be hiked by three to four rupees per litres within a few days on account of spiralling global oil prices.

Petrol price went up by 17 paise per litre on Monday, 30 paise on Tuesday, and 30 paise on Wednesday. Shivananda Prabhu, a dealer of petroleum products in the city, said that prices usually go up by three to six paise per litre per day but increase of 30 paise everyday is a phenomenon which had not been witnessed in the last several months. The current price of petrol happens to be Rs 76.22 and that of diesel, Rs 67.64, which will be valid till 6 am on Saturday. The price in Udupi stands at Rs 76.11 and 67.51 respectively.

There was respite from price rise for the consumers between April 24 and May 15 on account of state election.

will u stop putting petrol or diesel to ur vechile ???/

Globally, the price of crude oil contributes to a good proportion of the final fuel price. Crude oil price is currently $70 per barrel (roughly Rs 4553). However, in India, a good share of the petrol and diesel price go to the government as taxes: Excise duty to the Centre and Value Added Tax (VAT) to the states.

In this context, the increase in excise duty (Rs 11.77 per litre for petrol and Rs 13.47 for diesel) between 2014 and 2016, has helped the government increase the revenue by a good margin. The revenue shot up to almost Rs 2,42,000 crore in 2016-17, compared to Rs 99,000 in 2014-15

As per reports, the government gets Rs 10 per litre more excise duty on petrol than it used to get in 2014. Similarly, for diesel, it is Rs 11 per litre more. In total, excise duties on petrol and diesel have gone up by 105.49 and 240 percent, respectively.

    Prasanna,

There is a way to go about things. Good Management is always the key. The thing what is happening here is a Lawyer is leading is the Finance team. One should have a good understanding of the particular profession he is in. The finance committee, the banking system in India today is become a Joke. Have you ever seen so many changes in the banking system over the years.

The current government enjoyed their time when the oil prices had slumped to its lowest, but now its the real game.

For all non Bhakths: I spend 45K per month on fuel, which might go up by Rs.500 now.

Now, I get alcoho lat Rs.3-5 per ml, and 2 peg per day would cost more than 2 litre of petrol per day.

Will I stop drinking, no. Will i stop commuting, No.

Just to oppose a government, don't try to project fuel prices.

Is it so!? How many people spend 45K on fuel per month!?. What type of argument is this!?. You also mean to say everyone drinks alcohol everyday!!!!??? I hardly and calculatedly spend not more than 3K per month on fuel and I dont drink alcohol!!!. Most of Indians are in my class called middle class!!!. If you are ready to pay whatever the price increase, then ask your party in power why they called Bharat bandh in 2008 over a Rs. 6 increase in LPG cylinder price!?. Why so many bandhs and protests were organised by your party over the same issue!?. Remember, we are not talking about price increase if that is warranted by international crude price increase but what is happening today is your government is looting people by artificially increasing prices of fuel which have no connection to international prices!!!. Today petrol price is Rs. 76/ liter and crude price is $80 per barrel!. In May 2014 when UPA was in power, the price of petrol was Rs 76 per liter and crude was $130 per barrel!!!. Can you explain the logic!?. This looting is what people are protesting!!.

One thing looks certain, if you really are a businessman, you will not display how low you pay your employees!!!. You spend 45K on fuel and 13K for driver!!???. How you manage spending 5K less on groceries!?. If Modiji gets another term, you will be spending only 8K on groceries!!!. Have you lost weight after Modiji became PM!?.

    It's really entertaining.

If I speak logic, non bhakths are abusive.

I live in Coastal Karnataka, not in Jharkhand. I pay Rs.70 for Dal, Rs.35 for Rice, Rs.80-100 for a kilo of vegetables and Rs.200for a Kg. Chicken. I pay 700 for a cylinder of LPG, which lasts a month. Rs.40 for Potato and Rs.20 for Tomato.
I have 3 cars and a bike, with average running of 5K with 500Litres of Petrol, would be 45K,. A driver, whom I was paying 10 k is paid 13K.
part time maid, was being paid 3K now 4K.
My grocery and veg bills, average was 18k now much less.
    Do I sound illogical.

    I don't think so.
I do have 2 pegs daily (everyday) but I dont drive after I have.

So, being abusive is not logical but highly illogical

and there's no showoff on this, because you dont know me.
