Hung assembly: Kumaraswamy accepts Cong support, BJP, JD(S) rush to governor

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Updated

Bengaluru, May 15: H D Kumaraswamy, president of JD(S) has accepted the Congress support to form the government and has sought an appointment from the governor of Karnataka for this evening. In a letter, Kumaraswamy wrote that JD(S) has accepted Congress' support to form government in Karnataka.

B S Yeddyurappa, the chief ministerial candidate who was hopeful of forming the government with clear majority met the governor and said that he asked him the opportunity to prove majority in the assembly.

"We met the governor because we are thee single largest party, and requested him that he allows us to prove majority in the Assembly," he told reporters.

Kumaraswamy too met the governor at the Raj Bhavan at 5.30 pm.

The move comes after the BJP has managed only 104 seats till early evening.

Meanwhile the Congress has said that it is ready to make JD(S) chief HD Deve Gowda's son HD Kumarawamy the chief minister and keep the BJP out of power. "I am here with our independent MLA. The independent MLA Nagesh and others MLAs are with us. We have the numbers. We want a seculargovt in Karnataka," said Congress leader DK Shivakumar.

Vote count on Tuesday showed the BJP ahead of the ruling Congress. As of now, the BJP is ahead in 104 seats, followed by Congress in 77 and JD(S) in 39 constituencies.

Karnataka results: As trends show BJP in lead, Congress open to alliance with JD(S)

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, May 15: With the trends in Karnataka indicating a hung assembly with BJP in the lead, the Congress has said that it is open to an alliance with Deve Gowda's party Janata Dal(S).

Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge on Tuesday said that an alliance with the Janata Dal-Secular was possible.

He added that he will discuss the possibility of an allaince with Deve Gowda's party with the high command. "Correct position will be known at 11-11.30 am. I am going to meet Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ashok Gehlot and we will discuss," Kharge said. Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot too said that the party is open to an alliance with JD(S) but is at the same time confident of winning the Karnataka assembly election.

Congress General Secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad told the media in the company of outgoing Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that the JD-S had accepted the Congress offer of support.

"We will meet the Governor and stake claim (to form a government)," he said. "Our numbers put together will be more than the BJP's."

Reports say that Siddaramaiah's removal from chief ministership could be a rider for Deve Gowda to extend his support to the Congress. The JDS has said it is the Congress's "responsibility" to reach out if it did not get majority.

Vote count on Tuesday showed the BJP ahead of the ruling Congress. As of now, the BJP is ahead in 104 seats, followed by Congress in 77 and JD(S) in 39 constituencies.

According to sources, the delegation led by Congress is likely to meet Deve Gowda. If the JD(S) gives green signal of alliance with the Congress, H D Kumaraswamy could me made the chief minister.

It is backfired to BJP. Governor should accept Cong-JDS coalition to form the Govt. There is no other way to deny this. Rules should be applied equally.

It is now pressuring Congress leader D.K. Shivakumar through Enforcement Directorate to purse pending cases. He has been offered plum post if he breaks away with his winning supporters in his constituency.
This is alternate plan is now emerging in Delhi smart way of 'operation Kamala'.

All eyes are currently on Karnataka and its governor with the Congress and JD(S) coming together to stake claim. With the examples of Goa and Manipur creating a backdrop for the current situation, legal experts say the governor is obliged to prevent horse-trading.

Though Governor Vajubhai Vala is a known confidante of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he had once vacated his seat for Modi and later served as a finance minister in his Gujarat cabinet, he may find it difficult to accommodate the BJP this time.

If they give letters to the governor supporting each other, elect their leader and stake a claim to form the government, then the governor is duty-bound to invite them.

Since 1985 no incumbent government came to power. Kannadigas once again kept the tradition to push the state in to anarchy. Now the days of 'operation Kamala' is once agains haunting the state or BJP will wait for 'Mahagathbandhan' of the South India to weaken to fall apart and claim later?

Since the Khangress and JDS coalition is not pre poll alliance, Governor definitely call BJP the largest party. As in in the Bommai case the majority will be decided on the floor of the house.
How you know there is no horse trading is not involved when Khangress and JDS came together?

You and your party shamelessly defeated now gracefully accept the defeat. Both JDS and congress is not having the mandate and they are rejected. Both of their number came down compared to 2013. Mandate is with BJP as they increased their tally compared with 2013

People used to blame EVMs. But in todays results, it proved that they can tamper with EVMs. Specially when candidate like Pramod Madhwaraj from Udupi & JR Lobo lost, then what people used to blame from the beginning was true. Same way that happened in Goa. How BJP played politics in Goa. Not surprised at Congress plan. Ultimate intention is not to allow Yeddy-Reddy to loot Karnataka.

If that is the case why should we vote. When the majority which has come cant form the government, then all of us will lose the excitement to vote.Old aged people, sick and newly married come with difficulty and still the majority is not supported, then we will lose the interest in voting in further elections.
